Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Did a search and didn't see anything posted on this so I apologize if it's been covered already. I know I'm going to take my kids who've only been able to see BTTF on DVD. Should be fun!
Back To The Big Screen! |
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
I'd love to go see this -- I hope they won't just be projecting the DVD onto a big screen though.
|
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
I saw it back in August at a local theater and unfortunately they used a dvd :(

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Wouldn't they at least project the Blu ray instead of a DVD if they're going that route? It does come out that day & all. I'd think that wouldn't look too bad.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
No 3D, no sale.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Having worked at an AMC, they do not have the equipment to project a Blu-Ray, and even if they carted one in, it would really look shitty.
It sounds like a safe bet that this will be digital projection of a DLP print, which is good. |
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
AMC stands for All Movies Compromised.

Why, and watch a great movie get shat down like Superman 3D? Might as well keep it the way it is because it'll be incredibly difficult for them to project the movie into a 3D when it was shot only with the cameras available back in the mid 80s. It just won't look right.

Groucho plays another one. |

I hope I can make one of these showings. I'm a huge BTTF fan.

I've heard the opposite from most projectionists. The general opinion seems to be that Blu ray doesn't hold up well when projected onto an industrial size big screen.
It all depends on the projector and the source quality. There's almost no difference in terms of resolution size between 1080p and 2K. If the Blu-ray looks outstanding, which there are many to choose from, and the projector is not consumer-based (i.e. one that I might put up in my living room); I'm sure most would not be able to tell the difference. I would also like to go back to my comments in the BTTF HD Talk thread where I said this was not going to be a standard definition/DVD/satellite projection. For all the doubters, I told you so. |

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Just got back from the 12:30 screening and it was a lot of fun! A very enthusiastic crowd and almost a full theater. Before the movie started some of the AMC staff asked trivia questions and gave out door prizes. After it was over we all got a full-size 25th Anniversary Back To The Future, AMC Presentation movie poster. There's one more show on Monday at 7:30pm if you're interested. Check the link in the 1st post to see if your local AMC Theatre is participating.

This is the first time I have ever said this, and frankly it hurts me.
I wish I was in New Jersey. :( |

It was a blast though, theater was full and everyone enjoyed. |
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
For anyone who was on the fence about seeing this on Monday night, it is worth it. I wasted my money once on a fantom event (Poltergeist in 07), and was more than a little nervous that the BTTF showing would be of the same quality. It wasn't- the picture and sound were perfect.

Is it recommended to get tickets in advance?

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
I went yesterday. At my theater it was nearly a full house. People applauded when the title showed up and of course when it ended, but also there was applause when
Spoiler:
Took about 10 minutes after the credits had already ended to get out of the theater. Employees were handing out posters as people were walking out. Apparently they didn't have the posters prepared, so they were rolling them up one by one as each person walked out. Saw one guy with a BTTF trivia card game, so I guess the early people out got that along with the poster. When I finally got outside, a guy in a DeLorean drove by me in the parking lot. He certainly came prepared. I watched parts 2 and 3 on DVD when I got home. I had never seen part 3. |
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Thought I'd scan/post this in case anyone didn't get a chance to grab one for them self.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Super fun! I did the "Back to Back to Back to the Future" showing the night before Part 3 opened where they showed 1-3...Super fun.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
I might have to go! It's showing monday night here.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
^ Same here. Looking forward to it.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
I went on Saturday and I have to admit I want to go again on Monday. The film is still as good as it was before, and to see it play with an audience is even better.
|
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
For the people who went Saturday, how early do you recommend getting to the theater?
|
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Sad I couldn't make it to one of these showings (our infant daughter keeps us too busy), but I told my parents about this and they went on Saturday...it's probably my mom's favorite movie, so I'm glad at least they got to go. They picked up a few extra posters for me, though. :D

I'm wearing my "Flux Capacitor" t-shirt to the screening tonight.
|
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Already bought my ticket -- hopefully they didn't run out of posters. :)
|
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
damn i won't be able to go to one of these screenings. Back to the Future is my favorite movie of all time.
|
Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
What really pisses me off about this is that I've had two opportunities in the last year or so to see this on a big screen. Last year, a local theater did a screening of the whole trilogy one night and I was pretty run down by the time we needed to leave so we didn't go. Then, while we were in Daytona this summer, they screened it outside near the beach somewhere and I got the times wrong and missed that, too. Thanks, AMC, for not having a theater remotely close to where I live...

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen
Out of town this weekend and I can't go tonight :(
Would have been a blast to see it again. |
