Is it recommended to get tickets in advance?

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

I went yesterday. At my theater it was nearly a full house. People applauded when the title showed up and of course when it ended, but also there was applause when
Spoiler:
George McFly knocked out Biff.

Took about 10 minutes after the credits had already ended to get out of the theater. Employees were handing out posters as people were walking out. Apparently they didn't have the posters prepared, so they were rolling them up one by one as each person walked out.
Saw one guy with a BTTF trivia card game, so I guess the early people out got that along with the poster.

When I finally got outside, a guy in a DeLorean drove by me in the parking lot. He certainly came prepared.

I watched parts 2 and 3 on DVD when I got home. I had never seen part 3.

Thought I'd scan/post this in case anyone didn't get a chance to grab one for them self.

Super fun! I did the "Back to Back to Back to the Future" showing the night before Part 3 opened where they showed 1-3...Super fun.

I went on Saturday and I have to admit I want to go again on Monday. The film is still as good as it was before, and to see it play with an audience is even better.

For the people who went Saturday, how early do you recommend getting to the theater?

Sad I couldn't make it to one of these showings (our infant daughter keeps us too busy), but I told my parents about this and they went on Saturday...it's probably my mom's favorite movie, so I'm glad at least they got to go. They picked up a few extra posters for me, though. :D

We got there 30 minutes early and the theater was 1/2 full already. People were still coming in after it started and couldn't find seats together because it was practically full by then.

I'm wearing my "Flux Capacitor" t-shirt to the screening tonight.

Already bought my ticket -- hopefully they didn't run out of posters. :)

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

What really pisses me off about this is that I've had two opportunities in the last year or so to see this on a big screen. Last year, a local theater did a screening of the whole trilogy one night and I was pretty run down by the time we needed to leave so we didn't go. Then, while we were in Daytona this summer, they screened it outside near the beach somewhere and I got the times wrong and missed that, too. Thanks, AMC, for not having a theater remotely close to where I live...

Out of town this weekend and I can't go tonight :(

Would have been a blast to see it again.

There's one showing like 10 minutes from me and I can't go due to a prior engagement. Ugh.

We should all try and go to the same screening, and then argue about whether "To Be Continued..." was displayed at the end or not.

Supermallet 10-25-10 05:19 PM

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

Of course "To Be Continued..." wasn't displayed at the end. But I swear that it said "Episode IV" at the beginning.

I could see this tonight at two AMC theaters that are semi-close to me, but I also have the Blu-ray set coming tomorrow. If it were on film I'd be more inclined to go.

Just got back from the screening -- had a great time. A packed house and the crowd was really into it.

Curiously though, we were issued a different poster than what is shown on page 1 (assuming that was the poster given away for Saturday's screening). We got a replica of the theatrical (with a banner at the bottom promoting the AMC screenings).

If you're referring to the image I posted (Hill Valley Telegraph), that wasn't the poster, it was just a pamphlet that was found at the information desk. I just made the image large so that it could be easily read.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

Was going to skip this because of the blu-ray release but I'm glad that I ended up going. It was a blast to see it with a packed house of rabid BTTF fans. Getting the poster was a bonus (framing that tomorrow) They ran out of posters and gave the rest of the people a free movie pass - relieved I got the poster! there were no giveaways or trivia though, which some US theatres had been doing. Regardless, a great night for fans of the movie and seeing it on the big screen for the first time is something I'll not soon forget (I saw the sequels theatrically the first time around but not part 1).

Got back from a screening this evening. It was a lot of fun watching the film again. Great digital presentation as well.

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

I wish the poster was the original movie poster, but it's free.

Seeing the film with a crowd was great fun, and the movie is still a classic. I think it'd be easy to underestimate how well made it is. The things I appreciated most this time around were the composition -- it may sound silly, but this film has great blocking -- and the fact that every main character in the frame has their bit of business to do. No wasted moments, because even the spots that might be dead in another movie, someone is doing something funny or interesting.

I was unable to get a poster. I wonder if Universal would send me one?

Re: Back To The Future - Back on the Big Screen

My local theater didn't have any pre-show trivia. I'm real disappointed in that because I heard other locations were giving away the blu-ray set as prizes. I asked for an extra poster for a friend of mine who loves BTTF since they had extras, but they said only one poster per ticket. I'm happy that AMC did a screening, this was the first time I ever saw BTTF on a big screen.
