I don't get the Fillion hate at all. He's a fine actor and I wish he were allowed to branch out more. Hopefully Bruce Campbell get's cast in this so I can enjoy an Uncharted/Sam Axe double feature.

I like Fillion, but he might be on the cusp of being just a tad too old.

To be honest, Nate doesn't look all that young in the games. He looks even "rougher" in the second game (which apparently doesn't take place much long after the first). Fillion would be fine in this.

Heck, the Drake even has Fillion's faint forehead scar/dent/whatever.

If they could cast my boss from my old job, he'd be pretty good. Sounds exactly like him, and looks pretty similar too.

Like Drake. When I played Uncharted 1 for the first time, I kept thinking "What is my old boss doing in this?!" in terms of the voice, sense of humor and physical appearance.

Seems a little amateurish an actor would start a public campaign for himself (did I read that right?), makes him look desperate and weak. Go through your agency, that's why you have them.

Fillion's got the charm, but I think he comes up a bit short in screen presence for me.

Above all I'd really just like a fun film that could potentially lead to an Indy type of series, doesn't matter to me if the details aren't an exact match.

That could be rectified in the perfect role, and Nathan Drake is it.

As for championing himself for the role, who cares? It seems like a fun and unique way to express interest. It didn't come across as desperate to me.

It's not as uncommon or as unprofessional as you might think.

I agree with this, however. I was dismayed when Avi Arad announced that this was to be an adaptation of the first game. Given how both games already feel like movies, a filmic adaptation would be nothing more than a collection of non-interactive cutscenes. I'd rather this film be a prequel or sequel to the games. Just do a brand new story set in the same universe with only passing reference to the events of the games (like a one-liner from Drake here or there).

Yeah, I'd rather they go the James Bond route where you (or most people anyway) don't even care about where each entry fits in a timeline. You just think of them as different adventures.

That's awesome. Did you ever get to ask him about it?

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Heck, even the games follow that same formula. You don't need to have played Drake's Fortune to understand what's happening in Among Thieves or even know who Sully and Elena are.

+1. I agree FPS make dumb movies, but the UC series has always felt like interactive movies.

I hope the movie doesn't jump the shark like first game did. Yikes.

This isn't really that big of a surprise, considering the boner David O. Russell has for Mark Wahlberg.

Figures. It's not really all that surprising that Mark Wahlberg would get the role considering he's been able to work with David O. Russell repeatedly and he's known to be a difficult director for anyone to work with.

However, it doesn't remove any of my feelings of disappointment.

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (David O. Russell to Write/Direct)

awesome! Id vote for Nathan Fillion as well. Funny the first time I played this game all I could think was "man this would make a pretty good movie" hopefully if and when this gets made it will be better than some of the previous game to film adaptations.

Re: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (David O. Russell to Write/Direct)

And I'm out.

These games play out like movies and have some of the best characters you'll ever find in a video game series. There's no need to create brand new characters for the feature film, especially if it's going to be based on the plot of the first game. Not to mention they have perfect actors in Nathan Fillion and Bruce Campbell. But even if you don't want to go with Fillion, there has to be someone else; Wahlberg just doesn't seem a good fit for Drake. I guess he wasn't satisfied just being Max Payne?

Called it. Nathon Fillon and Bruce Campbell will never front big studio movies, sorry to be a party pooper fellow movie geeks.
