I thought this was brilliant. Easily the best film I've seen this year.

I can't wait to watch this again. I do believe the PG-13 conceit hurt the film, that would be my only minor complaint. Other than that...near perfection.

8. Benjamin Button (the only film of his I don't care for)

This film was almost too much to take in, in one sitting. I told my friend I saw it with that I think it will just keep getting better with each viewing. Which is exactly how I felt about and what happend with "The Fight Club".

It's "Fight Club", not "The Fight Club", and I assume that troys grandfather refers to the film as "The Fight Club" as well.

way overhyped IMO, it is this year's Up in the Air. The script with the fast banter was more like Ugly Betty or 30 Rock. It had so many unnecessary/superfluous scenes. Focused too much on the twins, and lost sight of the main character. The writer was obviously biased against Zuckerberg and made it known by women constantly calling him an asshole, when I just didn't see that on screen. They were looking for easy answers / AKA dumbing it down

The scope of facebook was also off, I felt it when it was building up, but when it landed, and got into the millions of viewers, I didn't get a sense of it at all. the Sean Parker/Eduardo rivalry was waaaay overplayed. I didn't get the sense the movie knew what it wanted to be, and it was dumbed down at so many points, even the music (how literal were they to choose 'baby you're a rich man', oh it is so ironic that he has no friends and isn't 'rich' at all. yeah... except he doesn't really care.).

Solid script and direction and the cast is actually pretty solid as well. The 2 hours flew by, as the pacing was very good. Not really much more to say, it's worth seeing if the subject matter intrigues you.

I give it 3.75 stars, or a grade of A-.

Let's think about this last statement for a second. You haven't seen the movie, but you think it's weird that critics (who HAVE seen it) like it?? What?? Really... what???

Oy, exactly. I don't understand this line of thinking. On the one hand, it's all wrong. I haven't seen this movie yet, but this notion that the movie is about "a website" is missing the forest for the trees. I read a Rolling Stone article (that wound up getting turned into the book) about the events around Facebook's founding, and it was fucking crazy and totally compelling.

It's also incredibly glib to purposefully narrow the movie down to it's MacGuffin and say that's all it's about...

Who wants to see a movie about some dumb guys trying to get a suitcase with an orange light bulb in it back to their boss? Sounds boring. (Pulp Fiction)

A guy plays chess on a spaceship with a talking computer. (2001)

A rich guy runs a newspaper and reminisces about his old sled. (Citizen Kane).

There's a thing called drama, and there's a thing called character. And I don't know if this movie is good or not, but to dismiss it (despite its superb writer/director) because you hate rich people or rich college students or something is just silly. Bruce Wayne is rich, too. Should one avoid Batman movies because it's about a snotty rich guy who can't get over his parents death?

I was blown away. To keep it simple and to the point tonight, I'll just say this: This could sweep the Academy Awards.

What a mind-bogglingly brilliant and important film.

I'm a fan of David Fincher, and I've enjoyed every film he has made (well, maybe not Alien 3 :confused:). I went to see The Social Network based on his track record, and nothing else. I really didn't have any real interest in the subject matter. I have to admit that I enjoyed it quite a bit. All of the performances were excellent.

Saw it. Really liked it. I hate to say that anyone who says it's a mix of Citizen Kane, All The President's Men, and a bit of Animal House is correct, but that's pretty accurate. Only one gripe, it was dark. By that I do not mean in tone, but the lighting made it very difficult to see what was going on in some scenes. Minor complaint to say the least. Thought it had good performances, and thought Timberlake did a nice job as well. I will also say that while I am skeptical about the movie itself, I feel a bit better about Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker as well.

EDIT: I wonder if we can infer that the "movie star" they mentioned but didn't name was Natalie Portman?

I assumed it was. Couldn't think of any other movie stars at Harvard at that time.

Saw the flick last night and totally loved it. Probably my favorite movie of the year. It's nice when a script, direction and score all come together so well. I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I still think Zodiac might be Fincher's best film, but this runs a close, close second.

Did the same guy play both Winkevoss brothers? I thought so, but IMDB has 2 different actors listed for the 2 brothers, but they were identical twins in the movie (just the hair style was also different between the two of them in each and every shot).

Great film. For some reason, Timberlake's last scene reminded me of the Colonel's last scene in Boogie Nights.

It was her. She helped Sorkin with details about the Porcellian Club. However, she missed the facebook craze in Harvard since she graduated in 03.

Armie Hammer played both twins. In shots where both brothers are visible but CG trickery would be excessive, like, the waist-level shot of the two brothers exiting the college president's office, a double was used and the double is credited.
