Re: Leonardo DiCaprio
I'd say The Departed mostly because that is the movie that made me a fan of his. He's been good in a lot of things though I was just ignorant up to that point though and thought he was just the actor all the girls were gaga over from Titanic.

Re: Leonardo DiCaprio
Until Catch Me If You Can, he was a movie star. That film really pushed him to step up his game as an actor, and I think this thread alone is testament to how recognized this is. I loved that film, as well as The Departed, but I was most impressed by DiCaprio himself in The Aviator.
His performance could easily have been cartoonish, and instead he really gave a sense of how Howard Hughes went from being enthusiastic but eccentric to, let's face it, insane. You get eased into it as his condition deteriorates, and by the time it's full blown it packs some serious punch. Great performance, and it really does make the entire film.

I think I counted him saying that 80+ times in that final scene

Titanic.
Although, I thought he gave a convincing performance as a down on his luck homeless teen opposite Kirk Cameron.

Re: Leonardo DiCaprio
That's too simplistic; that would be like crediting Joe Torre for everything Derek Jeter has accomplished. Scorsese clearly helped DiCaprio evolve his craftsmanship, pushing him to explore nuances previous collaborators hadn't extracted from him. But at the end of the day, he's still the one doing the acting. And give DiCaprio credit for being willing to keep working at it to reach this point; he could easily have stayed at his Titanic level of skill and coasted through stardom.

I went with The Beach, simply because of the scenes where he starts to lose his mind. He's been good to great in pretty much all of his movies, though.

Re: Leonardo DiCaprio
I voted "This Boys Life" because it was the first film I saw with him (I rented it from Blockbuster because of DeNiro) and I became "his fan" from that point onward. Since I liked 95% of his work, it would have been tough to pick a favorite, so I went with my first favorite.
