Re: Christian Bale
I voted 'other' for his flipping out on Shane Hurlbut. After he did that, I never loved the guy more....fucking awesome in every sense of the word.
Second vote would go to Mr. Bateman and then Mr. Batman.
I'd say "SHAFT" was also part comedy, so he's done at least two. Love that 'YOU WANT MY SHOES!?' line as he kicks the shit out of that convict.

Re: Christian Bale
I picked EMPIRE OF THE SUN because it must have been very difficult trying to portray all those different emotions without coming across as too precocious (like Dakota Fanning).
I was going to pick AMERICAN PSYCHO but despite it being the more entertaining performance, I don't think it was as difficult a portrayal. Even so, I don't think there were many actors at the time who could have captured the absurdity and the seriousness in one character so well.

American Psycho with Rescue Dawn a close second. When I first saw AP in the theater I instantly turned to my friend and stated I thought he would make a great Batman. What do you know.

It was the first movie I can remember seeing him in, and it is still one of my favorite movies to this day.

I think his performance in American Psycho was great, although few roles have ever had the physical demands of what he did in The Machinist. Especially since he did Batman Returns right after.
