Favorite Roger Corman (produced or directed) film?

with a lot of his produced material being given the specialized treatment of late and me yet to decide what i truly want...

getting through Galaxy of Terror now and while cheesy as hell, still pretty entertaining.

saw Piranha and Deathrace 2000 a long while back and didn't really gravitate towards either of them. could be i am just not into him, but worth it to give 'em another chance.

so, curious to know what your favorite directed or produced cult or otherwise "classic" of his is and why?

*now, he literally has almost 400+ produced and directed productions to his credit so i apologize in advance if i missed some well-thought of classics.

i think this is a lot different than the ones out now and very apropos considering the new Shout! Factory DVD/Blu-ray releases of the past several weeks. plus, i really wanted to know what his really good/bad ones are and what might be worth watching and thus put in some time to research some of his and make a somewhat educated poll.

I've seen the great majority of the films Corman has directed and the best remains, for me, THE WILD ANGELS (1966). As for the ones he's produced...? There are so many it would be hard to sift through them and see which ones stand out. I'm really not crazy about too many of them, even if John Sayles wrote some of them and Jonathan Demme directed some of them. The films Corman directed are far better than any of the ones he produced, IMHO. I love the Poe films and stuff like THE DAY THE WORLD ENDED, IT CONQUERED THE WORLD, MACHINE GUN KELLY, X-THE MAN WITH THE X-RAY EYES, ST. VALENTINE'S DAY MASSACRE, THE TRIP, and BLOODY MAMA, to name a few.

I voted for Masque of Red Death. Huge fan of the Vincent Price-Poe movies, and you can't go wrong with any of them. But I think this is the best of them. They really don't make 'em like this anymore. Movies like this (among several others) put to rest the argument that Corman only made schlock. Masque is just a stunning production (with fantastic cinematography by Nicholas Roeg).

Narrowed down my choices to Death Race 2000, Slumber Party Massacre, Piranha and Humanoids From the Deep.

Death Race 2000: Stallone + Carradine + plus lots of bloody carnage FTW

Directed: House of Usher (although you could make an argument for any of the Poe/Price/Corman films)
Produced: Piranha

Re: Favorite Roger Corman (produced or directed) film?

Really tough, I picked Rock n Roll Highschool, but any of the Corman/Poe films could've taken that spot.

Unable to pick a favorite. The range of features alone makes it an apples and oranges kind of thing.

Oh, OK. I'll go Humanoids From The Deep.

Humanoids from the Deep. It holds a special place in my heart for being the first movie I saw with full frontal nudity.

Death Race 2000. I still remember the joy I felt in the theater when Frankenstein said it was a "hand grenade."
