Other than that I would say Tom Hanks in Castaway. The rest of the ensemble cast was great throughout. Thankfully his part was small.

I agree, but I thought the guy who got stranded on the island did a good job.

You mean Wilson? No way! Spalding would have been much more believable in that role.

I like Leonardo DiCaprio, but doesn't it seem like he's miscast in most movies?

I think the problem with DiCaprio is that despite the fact that he is technically a good actor, the characters he creates often bear very little resemblance to an actual human being. There is just something decidedly inorganic about the guy.

Fortunately, I do not find this to be the case in everything he does.

Re: Movies ruined by the miscasting of ONE role?

David Schwimmer was GREAT as Captain Sobel in Band of Brothers. I never watched Friends. I knew who he was, and knew about the show, obviously, but I guess NOT spending the better part of the 90's watching him in a sitcom made it easier for me to accept him in a vastly different role.

Jimmy Fallon's BRIEF cameo never bothered me either. He drives a supply jeep and has two lines. Again, I didn't watch SNL too much, so I didn't even realize it was him at first.

I guess the key point here is: Don't watch lame TV shows; that way when one of the actors does a pretty decent turn in a dramatic role, it won't bother you so much 9 years later.

I actually wrote a paper on that. The use of stardom and how an audience perceives a role taken and etc. Band of Brothers and Schwimmer being the focus on it to be exact.

Re: Movies ruined by the miscasting of ONE role?

Searched the thread and didn't see this mentioned, but I was watching Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom on HD this morning and I've always thought that film would be infinitely better were Kate Capshaw not in it.

Oh, how I loathe her.

It seems all of this should be over in this old thread ...

Agreed! Hated her and everything about her involvement including her behind the scenes and how she didn't even prepare for the role. Ect,. ect,.

Jack Black in any movie other than King Kong.

John Cusack in any movie.

Don't forget casting a terrible kid in movies. Remember the little girl in The Lost World: Jurassic Park? She was totally tacked onto the film and felt out of place the entire time and then made the movie jump the shark with her acrobatics vs. a raptor.

Jim Carey and Tommy Lee Jones in Batman Forever.

Poor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Batman & Robin. Now let's not forget that George Clooney sucked! Everyone's acting sucked. But I can't cry miscast on the rest when they actually could have pulled it off with something called ... acting. Uma Thurman could have rocked if she hadn't hammed it up and didn't come off as ... high or something.

James Franco in the Spider-Man trilogy. I'd loved to have seen anyone else in this role. Yes, we got used to him because he was all we had. But someone else could have really made that role stand out. Franco sucks.

I don't think the X-Men films were miscast. They just didn't do much with many of the characters and sure enough Anna Paquin just sorta stood there in 2 and 3. It's like she wasn't even trying to act. Just showed up for work with a frown on her face and then left when they said cut.

Lastly, the entire cast of Jurassic Park III (except Sam Neill.) Worst cast ever! I hated them all. I mean come on. The old doc from ER as the father. Tea Leona was really miscast! The kid sucked! Mr. Noodle from Elmo's world as a bad guy?

It's the only movie I can stomach him in. He actually fits that role nicely. He plays a selfish jackass SOB loser and it's such a big film that he doesn't stand out enough to ruin it for me.

John Cusack cannot act to save his life. He really fumbles when any emotions are involved. He is not believable in any role. He takes me out of the movie any time he is on screen. But what really done it for me now is the fact that he looks exactly like, sounds exactly alike, and has the same mannerisms as my cousin ... whom I cannot stand anymore! (The guy is a nut job these days.) So now when I see John Cusack on screen I am like "How did my wacko cousin get into this film?

But really, John on his own just ruins every role he takes.

I think High Fidelity had great casting for both Cusack and Black.

This. And that's saying a lot, because many elements of Jackson's "King Kong" was the worst part of "King Kong". But Black was worse than all of them.

I can go with this. While he is a very capable actor, I can't ever see the characters he plays. All I see is baby-faced "Leo" on the screen and it usually detracts from the rest of the movie.

As for John Cusack, I thought he did an excellent job in 1408.

Austin O'Brien in Last Action Hero. He ruined the movie. This movie had potential and I liked parts of it. The concept, ect,. But Austin O'Brien just ruined it.

Geena Davis as Morgan Adams in Cutthroat Island. My wife and I watched this again yesterday, and it almost had the same type of vibe as Pirates of the Caribbean, but come on, I think if somebody else had played the lead it would have been better received. However, I will say, it was certainly a lot more entertaining than I remember.

I disagree, as (I suspect) do most who have seen the film. Even if he had done a bad job in the role, it's so small that it would have been insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Mitchum is a blast to watch in Night Of The Hunter, but the boy actor is so annoyingly bad, he really drops the movie down a few notches for me.
