Re: Saw 3D

1. I believe it really is the end. Whether or not it's a satisfying creative conclusion is, frankly, sort of irrelevant when it comes to whether or not they'd do more. They called it the end from a creative standpoint when they made III, but money won. This time, I feel as if Burg and Koules really are feeling as if they push it any farther the bubble's going to burst, and so they're signing off because they can't be positive the series is a foolproof, bankable commodity any longer.

That said, if they make more I'm sure they'll be branded DTV spin-offs, kind of like American Pie.

2. The poster may be a "rip-off" of one for the PS3, but I bet dollars to donuts they're by the same ad agency.

3. My love of IV has weakened over the years, because I ended up seeing it more frequently than any other Saw sequel, but my ranking probably still goes (star rankings using DVDTalk's 5-star scale):

Saw (****) | Saw VI (****) | Saw III and Saw IV together (***) | Saw II (***) | Saw V (**1/2)

4. Hostel Part II is great.

See, only part of V imitated II. VI pulled from III and V for both the A and B storylines. It would have been fine if only one of the storylines was similar to those of previous movies, but both being so similar to what had come before was too much.

Anyway, VII seems to have changed things up and will be the movie VI could have been.

Spoiler:
Opening where the first Saw left off, we see Cary Elwes as Dr. Gordon dragging himself along the floor, his foot gone. He makes his way to a heating pipe and, mustering the courage, presses his amputated wound against the heat, cauterizing it. As he screams, we fade away.

We come back to an all-new trap, this time in broad daylight in a major city. Inside a glass box in a large public square are two men chained to a machine. They're just waking up as a crowd gathers around them, wondering what's going on. Each are chained to circular saws with another saw in the center. Above them, a door opens to reveal a woman, strapped horizontally above the saw. Jigsaw appears on his tricycle, speaking in Tobin Bell's voice. He explains that this woman has cheated on them and convinced each man to commit crimes for her. They must now choose where the interconnected saws go; they can push the saw from beneath her, but it will cause it to go into one of them.

Everyone screams and the crowd tries to break the glass to no avail. Each man tries to push the saws into the other and one of them gets cut across the chest. The woman suddenly swaps her affections when she realizes that one is losing and both men notice, deciding to let her die instead. The circular saw cuts right into her chest and we see intestines fall right out of the wound onto the bloody floor.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

More happens in that eight minutes than in all of Saw V.

I hope this has a discrete 7.1 soundmix in the theatres since most of the blurays of the films are encoded as such.

That sounds awesome. I love the idea of the setting, which is different for the series.

I'll always have bad memories of Saw V. It was the only film in the series I saw in the theater and I hated it. Easily the worst of the series.

The BBFC just rated the first 8 minutes of footage, so there's a good chance that we'll be seeing it in cinemas or online soon. Stay tuned.

I like the Saw franchise quite a bit for whatever reason with Saw VI being the only one that I don't like. Saw II I actually think is one of the better horror movies in the last ten years or so, so I'm looking forward to Saw 3D on account of all of the built-up goodwill.

I can't wait until October. I really hope the franchise goes out with a bang both creatively and in the box office. The franchise hasn't been perfect, but it's one of the most entertaining serialized movie franchises in the last 10 years or so.

Can anyone think of another horror franchise as serialized as Saw? The only ones I can think of are Halloween specifically only 1-2, 4-5. 7-8

I never understand why 3D movies insist on showing the audience. I think it's kind of dumb.

Still, stoked.

Matthew Chmiel 09-09-10 05:39 PM

Re: Saw 3D

Halloween 6 is a continuation of the story started in 4 - 5 regarding the whole Thorn-aspect that started at the end of Halloween 5.

Nightmare on Elm Street 1, 3, 4 and 5 are also serialized too.

I'd also argue about Friday the 13th Part 1 and 2 alongside 4, 5 and 6.

Can't forget about Scream too. ;)

The new footage excites me more, but the cheesy 3D aspect promotional footage is fucking terrible.

Re: Saw 3D

Yeah, the audience interaction they're trying to show looks stupid. Still can't wait to see this, although honestly I don't care about 3D. I'd be happier watching a 2D showing, if possible.

I like that new trailer. Is that Chester from Linkin Park in the film?

Also did anyone notice in the trailer

Spoiler:
Jill Tuck is in the last trap?

Interesting!

Re: Saw 3D

Spoiler:
The footage of Jill Tuck being in a trap was in the previous teaser. There's also promotional images regarding the trap as well.

I'm curious to see how the fate of Jill will go. These writers, as shown by their previous scripts non-Saw related, are okay with killing off anybody and everybody.
