Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Is this movie real or just Solid Snake PAC's wet dream?
Eh, I'm skeptical...guess it could be cool, but when was the last time Robert De Niro was in a good movie? |
Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
my wet dream was The Expendables...though heavily flawed it was.
The last time De Niro was good? Depending on what you think of it...could be Stardust...or Ronin. |

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Last decent De Niro film: JACKIE BROWN (1997).

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
I'm just curious when did Hollywood decide that Jason Statham was a badass? The first movies I saw him in were Lock, Stock... and Snatch and he showed no signs of badassness in those films. Did he kick ass in some B-movies?

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
I think it was The Transporter that made Jason Statham into a "badass." It was pretty much all action films from thereon.

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Yeah, I think it was Transporter too. It surprised me as well since I didn't know the guy could actually fight after watching him in the Guy Ritchie movies.

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Fun fact: Jason Statham was an Olympic level diver for England when he got discovered by a talent agent. He also studied wing chun, karate, and kick boxing.

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
It was The Transporter. Funny enough, he only got that role because he got shafted inThe One. In that movie, he was supposed to have a sequence where he would spar with the good jet Li so he could hone his skills against the bad Jet Li. Statham trained long and hard for that sequence and then it was never shot due to budget constraints. Corey Yuen, the action choreographer of The One, decided to hire statham star in The Transporter as a way of making it up to him.
Another funny bit of trivia is that The One was conceived as an action vehicle for the Rock (even the animatics where made with him in mind). When he backed out at the last possible minute, Jet Li stepped in as the lead. |

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Just for the record, every review I'm reading of KILLER ELITE seems to indicate it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Peckinpah film. The allegedly "true" events took place in the 1980s, well after the original film came out (1975).

Just one star from Tyler Foster. Ouch.

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Great action sequences and great body count. My two complaints were the lack of originality and the fact that they relegated Yvonne Strahovski to girlfriends in distress status. I know they were following the book but a hot-ass action chick like that and they didn't utilize her action skills or show her in her underwear. A cardinal sin

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
when you say action chick...what exactly do you mean? Cuz TV action (from what I've seen) tends to be kind of eh.

Re: The Killer Elite (2011) - Statham, De Niro
Yvonne can kick some butt (as she did on "Chuck" the TV show).
-------- Robert Deniro plays an old-time assassin named Hunter, having taken Danny (Jason Statham) under his wing in the killing biz until a mission goes bad, and Danny retires from the game. Well, killers never really do retire from the game, do they? Hunter is held hostage by a oil sheik whose 3 sons have been murdered by Britain's SAS (special ops), and revenge is demanded. Hunter as bait convinces Danny to get back into the game, and Danny has to bring back the rest of the gang, Davies (Domenic Purcell) and Meier (Aden Young) and take out the 3 men responsible for the sheik's sons demise. Former SAS Spike (Clive Owen) takes note of his comrades being killed and goes on the counter-offensive, along with the backing of a covert society called The Feathermen. Overall, the film is somewhat not as involving in terms of building up relationships or characters you want to invest much viewing interest into, so the film has a some twists and turns, and can be quite loaded with action and killing, but it lacks something where it just never hits another gear and stays in a rut through most of its running time. I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+. |
