Re: Salt (Noyce, 2010) — The Reviews Thread
I thought it was good. The first hour was great but then it does devolve into a series of stupid moments - for a few minutes there though, I thought maybe Hollywood had made a movie with huge balls - then they puss'd out. Still, for just a mindless, fun action picture it delivers but I'd be interested to hear what the original ending was. Jolie was decent and I appreciated that a lot of the action was done with practical effects but definitely check your brain at the door. 3.5/5

I gave it 3.5/5 stars.
The first two acts were great, but then it got to the point that you could see everything coming a mile away (for me it started when she drew the venom from the spider. From there the story was telegraphed.
The actors were great. The action was great. The directing was (reasonably) great.
I'd watch it again as a renter, but won't be buying it on day one... Maybe when it hits the bargain bin.
I wonder if they'll continue the series.... But I'd rather have another Lara Croft film.

Come on, Scott. It's your poll and you're not even reading it correctly. He didn't vote 0 stars. He picked the option you provided for someone that has no interest in seeing the movie.

Saw it. Idiotic, preposterous, yet still entertaining. Jolie really carried this movie to the best of her ability and then some. I guess after having to do so much thinking last week with Inception it was kind of jolting to be watching something where any true thought makes the movie fall apart.
The only way I see this movie going from average to above average is if one maybe looks at it like a comic book heroine origins movie. Through that lens, it actually works well. However, as a regular I give it a B-, and that's only because I like Jolie and think she did a good job elevating the material.

Saw this yesterday. As some have said, I really enjoyed the actors and definitely the action. Dumb, entertaining fun.
I really like Kurt Wimmer, but in terms of writing, this film definitely seemed a little less crazy/fun compared to his other efforts.
I have to give the film tons of credit for getting me to laugh like a madman when I saw:

Yeah, when you saw ________ pull out the spike-knife-thingy and ________ let go of the slack on the shackles, you knew something was going to go down, I just wasn't expecting what ________ did to ________. That was ________ awesome!

Fun movie... Sure pretty much saw everything a mile away, but thats part of the enjoyment. Jolie sure can play this type of roll well, and wouldnt mind seeing a sequel.

I actually can't picture Cruise in the title role for this flick (Edwin Salt), even tho it shares a lot with MI.

So...if a sequel comes along, will she still go by the name Salt, or would show maybe go with something else, like maybe Sugar?
Also, if the break-up of Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt is a gaping wound, does that make Angelina Jolie Salt in the Wound............?

Pepper should be a black chick, and then they should bring in Chipotle and Ras el hanout, all fighting against Chinese agents led by the seductive-but-bland Tofu.
International Spy-ces, coming 2012.
Wait 'til after the credits where all the ladies sing "Push it".

Caught it tonight. I thought it was fairly enjoyable, but nothing particularly special about it. The pace was pretty quick and the movie moved along quickly from one action scene to the next, and Angelina does a pretty good job as a spy. I could see Tom Cruise in the role, unlike others here. I didn't really see where they were going with it mid-way through so it was intriguing, but it ended up fairly predictable by the end which was a disappointment. Regarding the end...
Pretty much just a female Bourne-light. I doubt i'd buy it on Blu-ray or anything, but it entertained me in the theater.

i saw it last night. I rated it 3 stars. I felt that the action was pretty good, but overall, the story had a few holes. I was thinking the same thing fumanstan was regarding the ending.
After we got out of the theater, the GF said 7/10, I said 6/10.

Just your typical dumb and yet fun summer movie. Completely preposterous. ESPECIALLY the scene where Jolie jumps down the elevator shaft landing again and again on the side. That said, I did enjoy it and would also give it a 3/5 stars or a 7/10 (my usual rating system). Probably Jolie's best action film behind "Wanted". Plus she looked great. Better than in "Wanted", where she looked anorexic.

Really? Media-manufactured movie star darling in Jolie + "dumb-mindless-summer-film" which is the DVD Talk motto. I would think this would be tailor made for the DVD Talk crowd.
