I'd have to put electrocution, lightning and thunder at the same time, and the shark in Jaws: the Revenge on that list as well.

I love this Rollerball scene (a really good scene, in a really so-so movie, IMO). Please watch this clip from begining to end and listen for the sound effect.

I'd add cat noises to that. I immediately get annoyed when someone throws something across the street, out the window, etc. and you hear that cat noise. How many neighborhoods have lawns full of cats being hit by random objects? And, usually, I would guess that I cat would just run away rather than make a noise.

6. Magical Space Sound

This is the classic of unrealistic sound effects. Most people are aware that there is no sound in space, or rather, there’s too little for the human ear to detect, but movie after movie insists on adding explosions, gunshots, spaceship engines, and even seismic charges. Some rare movies like Serenity and 2001 actually get this right [....]
Actually, the movie Serenity gets it wrong and has sounds in the space. It's the original tv-series Firefly that preceded Serenity that gets it right and does not have sounds in space.

That clicking noise whenever someone raises their gun. Can't stand it.

Serenity only has sound during the space battle which they explain as being in the atmosphere of the ion cloud surrounding the planet and thus can create sound.

I'm pretty sure this is intentional. The movie follows the basic "monster movie" blueprint and is really just another JAWS imitation.

Tires squealing on sand/beach.

Re: The 7 Most Inaccurate Movie Sound Effects

In the universe in which movies are set, every computer makes a beeping sound whenever it does anything. If you enter text, if a cursor flashes, if a window moves, there’s a beep. Can you imagine working in a cubicle in this version of reality? Your office would sound like an experimental electronica album from Germany.
I would love that. Kraftwerk's revenge!

Re: The 7 Most Inaccurate Movie Sound Effects

I don't know to say if this is "inaccurate", more like cheesy- there's a very generic children laughing sound that's used in countless movies, commercials, tv shows. I can't think of any examples off the top of my head (only a theme park commercial I saw today used it) but I'm sure someone would know what I'm referring to.

Re: The 7 Most Inaccurate Movie Sound Effects

If I remember correctly, the gun shot sounds in most action movies actually have cougars roaring in the mix, slowed down and reverbed.

Re: The 7 Most Inaccurate Movie Sound Effects

Video-game sound effects in movies are really bad. They were using the Atari 2600 Pac Man sounds up until the late 90s if not further.

Re: The 7 Most Inaccurate Movie Sound Effects

Noooo!!!! The Bald Eagle part is heartbreaking. Maybe the Eagle they have in the youtube clip is Gay?

It reminds me of those old stories about how some Silent Film actors couldn't make it in Talkies because their voices didn't match their image.

As someone who saw this in theaters, when the first use of the sound effect happens, my friend and I just simply lost it as we couldn't believed they used the "boing" sound effect. Then when they used it a second time, we couldn't stop laughing for another minute or two for the fact they had the audacity to use it a second time. John McTiernan deserves jail time for that piece of shit alone.

Same with swords. That and the hammer cocking sound when someone simply points a gun irk me to no end.
