The character dieing wasnt unexpected, but I dont think anyone expected this:

I still remember the night I went to see Episode I, my friend who bought the soundtrack just had to spoil Qui Gon's death for everybody. Seriously, couldn't you wait to show us the track listing AFTER we watched the movie?

I dunno. That demise in The Phantom Menace was a forgone conlusion to me back when I saw that teaser and later found out that
