Re: Predator vs. Die Hard..which is better?
Seems like there are a hell of a lot of non-posting Die Hard voters here.
I vote Die Hard, by a mile. And not just because I nailed a girl that I'd been lusting after for five years right after we saw it in the theater.
Die Hard really made the modern action movie. How many action movies that came after were referred to as "Die Hard on a ____"? No one ever referred to a movie as "Predator on a _____".

....and that's a good thing. You couldn't copy Predator all that well without immediately be labeled as a rip-off. W/ DH though...different location change the plot a bit and bam..it's easier to hide. You can't do that w/ predator. It's premise is rather condensed. You can't have another film w/ commandoes or whatever hunted by an alien and not get red flagged. DH's premise..yeah...it had more room to rip off on. That's why Predator is still fucking fresh.

I do recall those types of quotes but I can't remember what movies they were referring to.

Good point though.

I can stand it. I love DH. BUT...it's a bit...how do I say this? Average visually in a sense. It's in a damn building in the 80s. Clothes and hair..80s. 80s doesn't age well visually. faceless goons galore. I never cared for Argyle. I DID like Carl Winslow's relationship w/ McClane...that was smart. The ending is kind of weird...I didn't need for Carl Winslow to redeem himself. I trusted him completely and appreciated his presence. It did kind of get preachy. Also the whole villain not yet did...that's cliche. LOVE the flick but...it does has it's flaws. Out of all it's little annoying flaws..it all doesn't hurt the character of John McClane which makes you like it all the more.

Die Hard. Nothing really to think about. Predator is good. Die Hard is mother'fuckin' Die Hard.
Die Hard 3 is almost better.

Cliffhanger was Die Hard on a mountain
Passenger 57 was, like Executive Decision, Die Hard on a plane
Under Siege was Die Hard on a boat; Under Siege 2 was Die Hard on a train

Die Hard is just "The Detective" in a skyscraper.
Roderick Thorp later wrote a sequel to The Detective called Nothing Lasts Forever, in which Leland is trapped in a Klaxon Oil Corporation skyscraper after it's taken by German terrorists and must rescue his daughter and grandchildren. Twenty years later the novel was filmed with some changes: the daughter became his wife, Klaxon became the Nakatomi Corporation and Joe Leland's name was changed to John McClane. The film was released under the title Die Hard (1988) by the same studio as this film (20th Century Fox).

Yeah 'Die Hard' is a masterpiece in the vein of 'Transformers 2'.
Only 'Transformers 2' didn't insult the intelligence of the audience as much, and the caricatures in it were less obnoxious and transparent.

Die Hard. I like Predator quite a lot but even when I saw it in the theatre at age 16 or whatever I knew it was a big hunk of cheeseball. Tasty cheese, but cheese anyway, it definitely doesn't match up to Die Hard.

I chose Predator, which I like a bit more, although both are 80s classics. Predator has a great setup as it begins as a typical military action movie and quickly evolves into a sci-fi slasher movie. And of course, features the famous revealing of the Predator face at the very end. The sequence where Mac unloads with the Minigun and then everyone else starts blasting away is one of the most awesome action scenes ever. A perfect mix of action/sci-fi/horror.

The 80s really were the golden age of action movies.
Maybe it's the old man in me, but I find even throwaway stuff like Action Jackson and Cobra was better shot, edited and executed than today's action movies.
At least you could actually tell what's happening in the fight scenes. Unlike the modern era of jump cutting everything to shit

This. I love them both like my first born children. But Die Hard is just 'THE' action movie for me. It has everything, and John McClane is one of my all-time favorite film characters.

Both rank up there as my favorite action movies, but I have to give the edge to Die Hard. Just about as good as an action movie can get. Alan Rickman owned this movie as a villain. Even though Solid Snake Pac disagrees, I still love when
