Actually I was at The New Beverly cinema A few months ago when they were having the John Hughes Fest and after Ferris Bueller they had Jeffrey Jones , Eddie Mcclurg? ( the secertary ) and the actor who was ferris's dad there and the question was asked about the Ferris Beuller 2 script that John Hughes showed a few people and what ever became of it. Jeffrey Jones said that around 1999/2000 John had contacted everyone to set up the sequel after he finished the final draft and everyone was on board and then Mathew Broderick backed out and said he did't want to play ferris again. After this happend and then the studio that was going to make the chambermaid
( which turned into maid in manhatten ) closed down production on it, John hughes said later and left the film industry completley. he wanted nothing to do with it and they only way he could be contacted was through his lawyer...and he had his commentary track removed from all future Ferris dvd's.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I know the movie wasn't the hit the studio was hoping, but I was hoping at the very least they would scale back production value on the next movie or at least have the BBC continue it as a made-for-TV mini series with Dr. Who like production values.

I am really bummed they didn't make more.

And Unbreakable is crying for a sequel.

I was definately bummed out that there wasn't an Unbreakable sequel.

After The Matrix sequels, I learned that just because I crave a sequel, doesn't mean that it's actually a good idea.

Independence Day. Highest grossing (worldwide) film that's at least 10 years old that isn't part of a series, besides Titanic.

I lovvveee this movie. Such a lovely movie. The writing is so funny and the art department deserves so much praise.

Maybe the lack of a sequel has something to do with Douglas Adams. If I'm not mistaken, he developed a large chunk of it before dying. From the DVD commentary, I gathered that he (not just his books) was a large part of the movie. I'm not sure if an Adams-less adaptation of Hitchhiker's Guide is something that I want to see.

A big problem there is that the author of the Dirk Pitt books hates how his novels have been put to screen. The first one was Raise the Titanic in 1980, and it was a long time before they tried again. He was not happy with Sahara either; he even filed a lawsuit over the script.

Also, Sahara was considered a huge financial failure. It grossed $122 million worldwide against a $160 million production budget and $81 million in distribution expenses.

The Jet Li wire-fu extravaganza KUNG FU CULT MASTER (1993) ended rather abruptly right in the middle of the action and begged a sequel, esp. since it was based on a very long work, "Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre," that had been made into a two-parter at Shaw Bros. in 1978 and then a TV series. But no sequel was made. It's still a fun movie, though.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That doesn't mean I am disappointed there haven't been sequels, but I am just surprised we haven't seen at least an announcement for a new series of Mutt Williams movies. Again, not disappointed, just surprised.

And I was kind of surprised that there wasn't a Wrath of the Titans movie ever made. I just hope it never gets made now considering the treatment of the new Clash of the Titans. I know there is a crappy direct to DVD animated movie of this but it just never made it to a fully produced movie.

I'm most surprised by ID4 based on the box office take, ease of coming up with a cliched Hollywood storyline and bankability of its main star.

Right on man. Even as a prequel apologist, as soon as I had the ROTS DVD safely on my shelf, I was all "Okay George, let's get cracking on the true Further Adventures of Luke Skywalker".

Wow, we're on some kinda wavelength here. I suppose you're aware of the Douglas Adams/ Doctor Who connection, right?

Another one that popped into my head, though the film seems to have been mostly forgotten now...Young Sherlock Holmes. It was a decent hit and seemed ripe for further adventures.
