DVDTalk Draft Round 2 (Suprmallet vs cleaver)
Hello voter! Please vote for the team of characters that you like better. It's all personal preference. If one character on the list ruins a team for you and you select the other team based on that alone, so be it (although it would be preferred that you look at the team as a whole)
We would love to hear feedback and why you chose one team over another. Feel free to comment, ask questions, criticize, etc.

"Well I'm gonna to go then. And I don't need any of this. I don't need this stuff, and I don't need you. I don't need anything except this. [picks up an ashtray] And that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray. And this paddle game, the ashtray and the paddle game and that's all I need. And this remote control. The ashtray, the paddle game, and the remote control, and that's all I need. And these matches. The ashtray, and these matches, and the remote control and the paddle ball. And this lamp. The ashtray, this paddle game and the remote control and the lamp and that's all I need. And that's all I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one - I need this. The paddle game, and the chair, and the remote control, and the matches, for sure. And this. And that's all I need. The ashtray, the remote control, the paddle game, this magazine and the chair. [walking outside] And I don't need one other thing, except my dog. [dog barks] I don't need my dog."

Suprmallet
1. Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski + (this pick abides)
2. Bugs Bunny - (his FEATURE FILM appearances have been lackluster)
3. Captain James T. Kirk + (but of course!)
4. "Dirty" Harry Callahan + (what a great character!)
5. T.E. Lawrence - (great movie, the character was less interesting to me)
6. The Girl - (I don't remember anything interesting about the character other than the skirt blow-up -- a better Monroe character would have been from Some Like It Hot)
7. HAL 9000 + (very believable scenario, made creepy by the voice)
8. Jake Gittes + (despite The Two Jakes)
9. Amélie Poulain + (the character that every audience member falls in love with)
10. Obi-Wan Kenobi + (totally bland in the prequels, but his portrayal by Guiness trumps that)
Total Pluses: 7
cleaver
1. Vito Corleone + (insprirational!)
2. The Joker + (no "The")
3. Norman Bates + (still a great character despite the fapping in the remake)
4. Han Solo + (classic Harrison Ford)
5. Robin Hood + (lots of crappy performances of this character, but Errol Flynn is still a classic)
6. Clementine Kruczynski - (generic "quirky" hipster girl, complete with colored hair)
7. Norma Desmond + (it was the draft games that got small!)
8. Holly Golightly - (hard to look past the horrific racism in this film to see the characters)
9. Navin R. Johnson + (least convincing poor black child ever)
10. Kermit the Frog - (Kermit is pretty boring, I would go with almost any other muppet)
Total Pluses: 7
I flipped a coin and went with cleaver, since he appears to have slightly more variety.

I have no problem losing a coin toss, but I'm curious as to how you came to the conclusion that cleaver has more variety?

Re: DVDTalk Draft Round 2 (Suprmallet vs cleaver)
I said early in the discussions/draft thread that I made a conscious effort to abstain from any Star Wars characters since Darth Vader had already been selected and then cleaver took Han Solo in the fourth. Had I indulged, I would have gone with Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is easily my favorite character in the entire series. I thought Ewan McGregor played him very well in the prequels, showing us a rigid rookie in The Phantom Menace who went by the book, evolving into the seasoned mentor and leader over the other two films. And Alec Guinness's performance in A New Hope is really the only thing I completely love about that film; each time I watch the movie, I'm spellbound by every scrap of information he tosses Luke--and us--about the Star Wars universe.
Robin Hood was a character I'd intended to draft, but cleaver beat me to him. I'm not a major Robin Hood enthusiast by any stretch, but Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is one of my all-time favorites (though, in truth, that's largely because of Alan Rickman's Sheriff of Nottingham), and I love the 1973 Disney feature; it's goofy as all hell, but I don't care.
So, each team has a guy I'd considered drafting myself. Otherwise, I wasn't sure about James T. Kirk; I still consider him a TV character, but I have to say that they did a great job developing the character in the feature films. He really does evolve in those (now) eight features. I love The Joker in general, and while the rest of the world is still worshiping at the altar of Heath Ledger, I gotta say I loved what Mark Hamill did with him in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm and the rest of The Animated Series. He really did a great job showcasing how unstable the guy is, and how menacing he can be while still making you laugh.
I loved cleaver's choice of Kermit the Frog--I thought it was inspired, and an unexpected last selection. Ultimately, I went with suprmallet for T.E. Lawrence. Lawrence of Arabia is my favorite film of all time, and I think what Peter O'Toole did with the role was absolutely amazing. He captured the flamboyance of the man, while managing to offer enough humanizing humility and vulnerability to offer depth. The desperation when he is forced into performing an execution to preserve the alliance still gets to me each time I see it, as well as the conflicted meeting with Allenby before the third act when he tries desperately to shirk his role, only to commit to it on an even larger scale. Brilliant use of fictionalization to depict a real person, and it's why suprmallet gets my vote.

Well, I took a beating this round. My hat's off to cleaver, but I must shake my fist at you for picking Navin R. Johnson as I was going to pick him the very next round. Jerk.
