I mught be in the minority here, but I don't think we need a sequel to Cloverfield. It worked perfectly on its own, and I'd rather have something new instead of Cloverfield 2.

I knew it wouldn't be related to Cloverfield. Read the description, sounds cool. Although, I wonder how this'll affect Weird having 2 films so similar on the horizon.

Looks good to me. Paramount announced a Summer 2011 release. Not sure where they'll place it as next Summer already has some major heavyweights scattered.

A few interesting tidbits, from Dark Horizons:

(no spoilers)

J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg began collaborating on a hush-hush project a year ago called "Super 8".

Abrams has written the original script and will direct the film this Fall. The budget will be in the $45 million-$50 million range.

Paramount Pictures will release the film next Summer. Amblin and Bad Robot are producing.

The film HAS NOTHING to do with "Cloverfield". It will be shot traditionally, NOT handicam style like "Cloverfield".

With "Star Trek 2" not due till June 2012, Abrams could still direct that after "Super 8" if he choses to do so.

The 90-second trailer was shot independently of the actual film shot about a month ago and has been put assembled in the past few weeks.

I followed all the hype I read online saying "don't read descriptions of the teaser! It's better to see it fresh!" and found it to be incredibly bland. Train crashes, banging sounds. Ooooh. Cloverfield's teaser with the money shot of the Statue of Liberty's head crashing on the street was much better. Of course THAT movie turned out to be absolute crap. So maybe this one will be the opposite of that.

So the trailer has really nothing to really do with the movie outside of showing stuff that will most likely not even be in the finfished film and they haven't even began principal photography on the actual film yet? So there is a chance that this movie never even gets made.
