I'll admit. I like Apollo 13 and ............I think that's it. Cindrella man is very by the numbers. He's not really great. I mean...his filmmaking isn't beyond what I could easily imagine something used in whatever film he's made.

Oh c'mon on, Backdraft, Apollo 13, and Ransom are a respectable threesome you gotta admit. Granted, there's definitely more mediocrity (and worse) on his resume nowadays...

I like Ron Howard's work as a director. It's Akiva Goldsman that has me worried.

Re: The Dark Tower... a Ron Howard film (dear god, no)

I'd have no faith in this regardless of the director. It's just not a story that can be cut down to fit into three movies. I could maybe see it in four, if they cut all the flashback stuff that's the meat of Wizard and Glass. That's some great material to have to cut though. Also, given where King went with the story in Song of Susannah, I just don't see how that would work at all.

I don't know what the trilogy + tv series that's being bandied about means. I suppose maybe if they did 3 movies and 3 seasons of a tv show, they could fit everything in. Not sure how that could be sold to the public at large though.

No matter how pedestrian many of Howard's films turn out, he's still the dude who gave us NIGHT SHIFT. He has my gratitude and is building a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude.

Re: The Dark Tower... a Ron Howard film (dear god, no)

It's not that I dislike many Ron Howard projects. It's just that when I picture them in my mind, I never think of an actual scene or line from the movie. I always see the poster. That's it. Go ahead and try it. Think of any Ron Howard movie and try to think of any scene before you picture the poster.

What does that say about how he goes about his storytelling?

I have no problem with Howard in general but he does not sound like a good fit for this. Also, to be fair, pretty much anyone but Abrams and Lindleoff is a step in the wrong direction. They were a perfect fit for the Dark Tower.

I thought they were a bad choice, too. Abrams makes glossy, kid-friendly movies. Uh-oh, Scotty's in the water-slide!!

I'm sure it would have been like Lost though. Abrams directs the Pilot and then disappears and leaves the show to Lindleof.

Re: The Dark Tower... a Ron Howard film (dear god, no)

You're going to think I'm insane, but now that it's official that I'm not directing this movie, I would have seriously considered Conan O'Brien for Roland, assuming he was willing and able to do some serious acting.
