DVDTalk Draft Round 1 (wishbone vs Osiris3657)

Hello voter! Please vote for the team of characters that you like better. It's all personal preference. If one character on the list ruins a team for you and you select the other team based on that alone, so be it (although it would be preferred that you look at the team as a whole )

We would love to hear feedback and why you chose one team over another. Feel free to comment, ask questions, criticize, etc.

I didn't even have to read past #1 on the first list to declare a winner!

Re: DVDTalk Draft Round 1 (wishbone vs Osiris3657)

wishbone
1. Tyler Durden + (love this guy, perhaps picked too early though)
2. Atticus Finch + (my son is named after this character)
3. Kikuchiyo + (I could watch this performance over and over)
4. Charles Foster Kane + (classic)
5. Jeff Spicoli + (hilarious and memorable)
6. John Shaft + (Jackson played a different character!)
7. Pinhead + (memorable villain)
8. Kirk Lazarus + (I couldn't stop laughing)
9. "Cool Hand" Luke Jackson + (great anti-hero)
10. Alan Swann - (I thought this movie was DOA)

Total Pluses: 9

Osiris3657
1. The Man With No Name + (but I'm not convinced this is one character)
2. Patrick Bateman + (brought the novel to life)
3. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman + (just a great character)
4. Rorschach/Walter Kovacs + (best part of an otherwise mediocre film)
5. William Wallace - (didn't care for this film, or this character)
6. Marv + (Rourke was great)
7. Dr. Alan Grant - ( why this dullard over Ian Malcolm?)
8. Stansfield + (great villain)
9. Agent Smith + (liked this character immensely)
10. Captain John H. Miller - (another somewhat dull performance)

Total Pluses: 7

Winner: wishbone

Re: DVDTalk Draft Round 1 (wishbone vs Osiris3657)

yea there are people who argue that the Man with no Name is a different character, but what sold it for me was in The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Lee Van Cleef's character Angeleyes clearly recognizes Blondie from For A Few Dollars More

Alan Grant made me (and probably millions of other kids) want to be an archeologist. Iconic character in my eyes. I loved Ian Malcolm though.

Re: DVDTalk Draft Round 1 (wishbone vs Osiris3657)

But doesn't The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly take place before For A Few Dollars More? The Leone trilogy is pretty clearly three separate films, but Eastwood's character (despite having different names in all three) is identified as a singular character.

Edit: Even Lee Van Cleef's character is different in the second two films. In FAFDM he's Col. Mortimer. In TGTBATU he's Angel Eyes, but his real name is Sentenza.

Presumably because he was such a shitty paleontologist.

Not to an archaeologist, it isn't!

Really, more than anything, that movie made me want to be a T. Rex.

Wishbone loses for putting Kirk Lazurus on his team...brings down the whole group.

Wishbone...for referencing SEVEN SAMURAI, CITIZEN KANE, and SHAFT.

(Although I would have picked the lead character in SEVEN SAMURAI, the one played by Takashi Shimura, and not the Mifune character.)

wishbone - 5
Osiris3657 - 6

Some nice heat in these lists. Dead even tie at face value. The man with no name and Stansfield characters are two my favorites and I found both Rorschach and Agent Smith were easily the most watchable characters from each of their respective films ...so I give the slight nod to Osiris.

2. Atticus Finch (Gregory Peck, To Kill a Mockingbird, 1962)
3. Kikuchiyo (Toshirô Mifune, Shichinin no samurai, 1954) One of my all-time fave actors
4. Charles Foster Kane (Orson Welles, Citizen Kane, 1941) I didn't really enjoy watching CK
5. Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, 1982)
6. John Shaft (Richard Roundtree & Samuel L. Jackson, Shaft franchise, 1971-2000)
7. Pinhead (Doug Bradley, Hellraiser franchise, 1987-2005)
8. Kirk Lazarus (Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder, 2008)
9. "Cool Hand" Luke Jackson (Paul Newman, Cool Hand Luke, 1967) Paul Newman
10. Alan Swann (Peter O'Toole, My Favorite Year, 1982)

Osiris3657
1. The Man With No Name (Clint Eastwood, Dollars Trilogy, 1964-66)
2. Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale, American Psycho, 2000)
3. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman (R. Lee Ermey, Full Metal Jacket, 1986) FMJ is overrated for me.
4. Rorschach/Walter Kovacs (Jackie Earle Haley, Watchmen, 2009) Rorschach probably the most loved character in Watchmen, but i never liked Watchmen, sorry.
5. William Wallace (Mel Gibson, Braveheart, 1995)
6. Marv (Mickey Rourke, Sin City, 2005)
7. Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill, Jurassic Park franchise, 1993-present)
8. Stansfield (Gary Oldman, Leon, 1994) Id prefer Leon himself
9. Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving, Matrix trilogy, 1999-2003)
10. Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks, Saving Private Ryan, 1998)

So i guess i go with wishbone
