Fright Night remake (Gillespe) - News, rumors, cast
Anton Yelchin to star in new 'Fright Night'
Anton Yelchin is in negotiations to star in “Fright Night,” DreamWorks’ remake of the cult 1985 vampire film.
Craig Gillespie, the director behind 2007’s “Lars and the Real Girl,” is helming the new version, which sticks to the concept of a teen being convinced that his new neighbor is a vampire, although no one will believe him.
The new iteration, written by Marti Noxon, keeps the character's name the same as in the original: Charley Brewster. William Ragsdale, now seen on FX’s “Justified,” originated the role.
Michael De Luca and Alison R. Rosenzweig are producing the new “Fright.” Lloyd Ivan Miller, Michael Gaeta and Josh Bratman are exec producing.
DreamWorks seems to have “Fright” on a potentially similar path as the company’s 2007’s hit “Disturbia.” The modestly-budgeted thriller followed a home-bound teen convinced that his neighbor was a killer and provided a breakout role for its young star, Shia LaBeouf.
For Yelchin, repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, the movie will continue his streak of acting in notable sci-fi-horror genre movie projects. He portrayed Chekov in last year’s “Star Trek” movie and played robot fighter Kyle Reese in “Terminator Salvation.”

it would be strange being cast as the new "Evil" Ed. It's like, shit, if this doesn't pan out, 10 years from now I might be in gay porno.

Yelchin was one of the few good things in Terminator Salvation and was great as Chekov in the new Trek. He should fit the role well. Given the original and the fact that they got a good director for this, I can't see them going all Twilight with this.
Also note that Nancy Oliver, the writer of Lars and the Real Girl, has written a few True Blood episodes.

I like Marti Noxon. I know some people blame how dark the last two seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer on her but I happen to like them. I agree Fright Night doesn't need to be remade but having her write the script means it might not actually suck.

I'm kind of looking forward to this, going by the casting and interviews with the director. I just hope they don't turn this into a Twlight rip-off. They could easily do that.

After In Bruges, I'm behind just about any utilization of Colin Farrell. He's a great choice for Dandridge, can definitely picture him nailing the suaveness of the character.
Toni Collette's a good call for the mom as well. Glad they're casting decent actors for this, the indie comedy vibe from the talent involved is encouraging. Much as I was dreading this being remade, it seems to really be shaping up as something good.

Doctor Who and Red Mist join 'Fright Night' (exclusive)
David Tennant, best known for starring in the BBC series “Doctor Who,” and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining the cast of “Fright Night,” DreamWorks’ remake of the cult 1985 film.
Tennant and Mintz-Plasse join Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire. Toni Collette is the teen’s disbelieving mom, who falls under the vampire’s spell.
Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.
Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven.
The movie marks the first real foray into America for Tennant. He starred in the NBC pilot “Rex Is Not Your Lawyer,” but it did not get picked up. He is repped by UTA and Independent Talent Group.
UTA-repped Mintz-Plasse, meanwhile, is continuing to show that there is life after McLovin, the character he played in his acting debut in “Superbad.” He recently was onscreen as the Red Mist in “Kick-Ass.”
Michael De Luca and Alison R. Rosenzweig are producing “Fright,” which Craig Gillespie is directing. Lloyd Ivan Miller, Michael Gaeta and Josh Bratman are exec producing.
The movie will be released through Disney.
