That's what I thought of too. Just include a list of the matches in the OP to clarify.

I ran one like that for video games a while back (I think). It isn't really hard, but I generally like the cleanliness of the different poll for each match up. Though, given the feedback thread, it would probably be best just to do a multiple choice single thread.

I think two threads are fine, and I like sauce's idea of starting 2 now and 2 on Monday.

I thought we were going to end up with one winning 'character'.

Same here. I was trying to pick a variety of characters to increase my chances of winning one-on-one matches. I didn't expect Optimus Prime to win the tournament, but I figured he would fare well enough against someone else's #10 pick. I definitely didn't expect him to be the liability to my entire roster that cost me the first round!

He might not have been a lot more people voted than left comments.

Salt in the wound to Groucho that you destroyed him in the first round, despite having no idea how this game worked.

I guess I did "try too hard" as one critic of my list put it, considering the other guy technically didn't "try" at all.

I'm fine with however you guys want to try it, the mods have already agreed that 4 threads done expressly for this game won't be considered forum domination.

You know, there's one topic that hasn't really been addressed in all the disputes over this game and that's that it was supposed to have sparked discussion about characters. I know Osiris bumped each thread at one point, but there were at least two threads in which actual conversations took place. Groucho's roster invited a conversation about our individual tastes and how deviating too far from the mainstream invites scorn, and Suprmallet and I had what I thought to be an engaging (if ephemeral) discussion about the nature of Captain Kirk's character arc throughout the Star Trek features. Sadly, those threads are now locked and whatever discussions may have ensued in any given direction were cut short.

If you want to keep a discussion going, we can open up a new thread divorced from the game.

The logical consequence of what you are saying seems to be that all draft threads should have remained open in case there was to be ongoing discussion. Or otherwise that a judgement had to be made before closing any thread as to whether a continuing discussion was likely.

Over the life of the contest, this could have resulted in even more threads on Page One; essentially all dealing with aspects of the same thing. It seems to me that this was precisely the complaint of some members and what sparked off the disorderly behaviour elsewhere. My apologies if I have misread you, but you seem to be second-guessing the decision taken without actually offering up anything constructive as to how things should have been worked out.

Precisely: discrete draft threads open for the course of each round and a meta thread to discuss the contest itself, its administration and any points that would otherwise be lost as the discrete draft threads are closed.*

Anyhoo, barring any temporary absence from the forum on their part due to Real Life, I believe that my own involvement here in an administrative capacity is now at an end, given the presence of Suprmallet & wenderfan.

(* Which is what I thought this one was although, arguably, it may end up with a Part Two of its own to keep it manageable/relevant).

My policy has always been, and is, that this isn't my website. I'm here as a courtesy of those who own and operate it, and I defer to those in all matters. I do think it's safe to say, though, that I would disagree with the idea that anything needed to be done. Here's why:

The argument against these threads was really that they were on the all-important Page 1, and that they were kept there artificially. I would argue that if a thread--any thread--has a life of its own, so long as it hasn't devolved into a flame war, it should be permitted to run its course. If that means staying on Page 1, or falling to Page 48, then so be it. I don't see why originating as part of a game should be held against a thread.

I'm against it unless he can vote, but I think only one other person is against it.
And I definitely think every matchup should be a different thread, let's flaunt this shit.

So where did we end up on things...or did we resume this and I missed it? It was a lot easier to follow when there were lots of threads on the front page about it. ;)

I think it might have stalled and died.

I remember there was a guy who ran a bunch of poll games..and he did them really well..maybe he can run this.
