Ip Man 2 Review Thread SPOILERS

Has opened at the cinema here in Australia (imagine it will be a short cinema release)

This thread will contain SPOILERS - Bail now if you haven;t seen the film

Look i felt it was a notch below the first but still very enjoyable. The politics of the kung fu world in Hong Kong at the time was interesting and seemed accurate from what i have read. Fights were very good but just a slight notch below the first. The fights v the western boxer were well done given the variance in style.

The little bruce lee scene at the end was cute but the kid overacted just a bit. Still i really want a third Ip Man to round off the trilogy. Even though Donnie has said no, money talks.

So why post in the thread?

I've been hearing some good things about this. I need to check it out.

Saw this movie yesterday and it was OK. Definitely not as good as the first movie. I wasn't blown away by the fight choreography this time around.

Finally caught this on Netflix streaming. Wow... can you say Rocky IV, right down to the speech at the end? I like the 1st film better.

There's a lame teaser trailer on youtube but there's no actual footage; just Chinese characters.

Cung Le is in it. He needs to be in a good movie. The last time I saw him was in "Fighting" with Channing Tatum. I laughed when Tatum
kicked his ass. I just couldn't buy it because this dude is a bad ass.

I watched this back-to-back with Ip Man 2. Enjoyed both, but I actually thought that this prequel was the better of the two.

I thought it was okay except for the fact that it was inconsistent with the Donnie Yen version.

Spoiler:
He spoke English in the prequel but in Yen's version he needed a translator. I believe he actually knew English in real life since he went to a Catholic school. Also, when those ninja type characters showed up at the final battle I was rolling my eyes. Seriously, ninjas?! Other than that it was entertaining.

Anyone know how good the subtitles are on this one? Some Asian/HK editions have grammatically questionable English subtitles. Is this one OK??

It has some if I remember correctly but I didn't notice it the first time I watched it. I was so into the movie I forgot about the subs. If you don't have either part their both available as a 2 pack.

"The Grandmasters" is in post-production, though Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi are on standby in case of more re-shoots.

Grammatically, it looked alright to me. No funny sounding lines or anything like that.

Excellent. I got a copy off of ebay for just $15 total shipped. New, no less. (And I should have it next week.) After looking at the DVDBeaver comparison I preferred the look of that release so I decided to go that route.
