Anyone still buy VHS movies?
Especially movies that dont even have a DVD format?
Recently this week I got the old VHS of the actual movie of Pirates of Penzance that has Angela Lansbury in it.
Plus the pawn shop here in town they're selling VHS tapes at 99 cents. So far I've seen these movies for VHS at the pawn shop
Meaning of Life
Armageddon
Road Warrior- I can tell its the really old VHS cover and everything
Ewoks Movie
Predator
Predator 2
Ghoulies
Bela Lugosi Dracula in clamshell
the animated Atlantis flick that had Micheal J Fox doing voice over
Evil Dead 2
Matrix 2
Animal House
Star Wars Original Trilogy when they were being released in the stupid THX format where the covers had imposing face photos of Darth Vader on one of the movie covers, Stormtrooper for New Hope and Yoda for Return of the Jedi

Re: Anyone still buy VHS movies?
Not in years.....the only VHS I still own is the letterboxed Star Wars trilogy. The last release before Lucas came out with the "special editions".

Last time I bought a VHS tape was 2002. I wound up giving my entire collection away once I realized how much space they were taking up.

I buy VHS all the time--from Book Off, the one store in Manhattan that still sells them. Just the other night I bought two volumes of a classic anime sports series from the '70s that I'd never seen. Five episodes in Japanese, no subs. And then I watched them. High-quality tapes. Great visuals. Very intense dramatic content and easy to follow. I even wrote a review for IMDB since the series has no comments yet.
I have lots of classic anime on VHS that has never been released on DVD. I even made up a list that I'm planning to post on the Anime Talk thread.

Re: Anyone still buy VHS movies?
I got a question about certain movies.
Which is better the DVD for As Good As It Gets or the VHS tape? The DVD only has commentary track with Helen Hunt and Jack and thats about. Basically its bare bones and like the VHS so would I be better off just sticking with the VHS form of As Good As It Gets?
Same with Nothing But Trouble and Leprechaun and the Puppet Master movies since most of the VHS tapes of the Full Moon movies they have trailers in the beginning and some bonus behind the scenes stuff at the end of the movie. That's what I still love about the old VHS tapes for any movie. The trailers and any bonus behind the scenes stuff and deleted scenes too

Also the VHS tape of Ice Cube's Friday. At the end of the movie it's pretty damn loaded with bonus stuff like a music video and deleted scenes.

Re: Anyone still buy VHS movies?
Have not bought one for well over 10 years.
They really seem like old stuff - 8Track, B&W TVs, Radio Serials, Punch Cards, TRS-80s...and it has only been since 2006 that the USA stopped shipping VHS tapes. I know they were dead well before that, but still they are a long forgotten memory to most.

Recently I got a HD tv and Blu-ray player. As I was re-doing my home theater I made the decision to not include the VHS player. I only have 1 video tape left. Maybe I'll just give the player to someone who still needs one.

Re: Anyone still buy VHS movies?
I saw a VHS of Star Wars today for $3. If the box had been in pristine condition, I might have sprung for it just for sentimental/oddball collectable reasons.
Otherwise, I can't imagine buying VHS. I'm not even sure I have a working VCR anymore.

I can't even remember the last time I bought a VHS tape. I got my first DVD player back in 1999 and don't think I ever bought a VHS since, so at least 11 years now.
