Not expecting a lot of agreement on this but Gettysburg featured one of the best and one of the worst pieces of casting in cinematic history all in the same film. The best was Stephen Lang. I cannot imagine anyone playing a better George Pickett. The worst was Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee.

I've always had a thing for her and think she can be very pretty, but yeah, I was surprised to see she's only 32. I would have guessed 37 or 38. I'm curious who those people think should have been cast instead? Was it her acting or just her looks you didn't buy? I mean, after Katie she was a breathe of fresh air, IMO.

In Batman Begins, Katie Holmes was an assistant DA, not the DA. Her being an elected official at her age would seem out of place, but being one of many hirelings under the DA is not a far stretch.

Oh God, totally agree. Stephen Lack's performance was just so dreadful, as were several of the performances of smaller roles. As much as I tend to hate all the remakes of older films, this is one older film I wouldn't mind seeing remade (in the proverbial "right hands" of course). Whether the alleged 2011 remake will be good (or even materialize at all) we will see.

Shreiber as Sabretooth? He was by far the best part of the movie. He put Tyler Mane to shame and would've made the original X-Men movie better.

But I can't stand him in B&R. Maybe it was the lameness that is every line having to be about ice/cold/frozen, which was a writers fault and not really his, but still.

Huh. No mention of Halle Berry in the X-Men movies? I always thought the consensus was that she was terribly miscast.

Julia Roberts in the Ocean series.
When Tess Ocean makes her first appearance, she's presented as this Helen of Troy-esque angels-would-weep beauty. Then you see Julia Roberts and it's kind of like "Oh. Her."
No offense to Julia Roberts, but she's just not that beautiful

If they cast today, I'd expect Zoe Salanda to be the front-runner, but in 2000 there was no name ahead of Berry's on anyone's wish list for the role.

Besides, Halle sure wasn't helped by the X-Men dialogue she was given.
"What happens to a toad when it's struck by lightning?
[pause]
The same thing that happens to everything else."
X-MEEEENNNNNNN!

I think I'll give a nod to Gary Oldman in "Lost in Space".
Perhaps it was the writers that decided to make the change for his character, but my understanding was that Dr. Smith (originally) was a nosy pain in the ass, not someone two steps from going family killer.

Re: Cases of Movie Miscasting
That's not really miscasting though, that was a conscious intent to reimagine the story.
The filmmakers wanted to make Dr. Smith full-on evil, so they got Gary Oldman... and got full-on evil.
