This Is It, Best Documentary Feature??
Does anyone think Michael Jackson's This Is It will be nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards this year?

It's actually not eligible, it had to be released before Aug. 31. It could be nominated at the 2011 Oscars, but nobody will probably remember to vote for it:

Re: This Is It, Best Documentary Feature??
What? I thought all movies released within 2009 (i.e. before January 1, 2010) can be eligible? Is this just some odd eligibility rules for documentaries? Because I know Princess & the Frog will be nominated for Best Animated Feature and Avatar will be nominated for Best Picture, etc.
Foreign Films also have a strange cut-off date, they must be released in their home country before the end of September:
The White Ribbon, for example, will most likely be nominated for best foreign film: it was released in Germany on September 17, but in the United States on Dec. 31. Because it was also released in the US this year, it is also eligible for every category, not just Foreign Film.
A Prophet, which was released in France on Aug. 26, is eligible for foreign film, but nothing else, because it hasn't been released in the US yet.
...I don't know why.

Yeah the rules are ever changing and stupid.
Remember when A very long engagement wasn't allowed to be a Best picture or Best Foreign film because It was a french film with some financing from the U.S.
Someone those rules were forgotten when it came to Slumdog Millionaire. Which was pretty much a foreign film financed by an American company.

That's too bad, I think This Is It was a really good documentary aside from the reasoning for the movie. I doubt it will get nominated next year.
