Trying to remember a cartoon: cat turns into a dog
Yes.. I know how the title of this thread sounds, but I figured including a specific in the subject heading would be more useful for future searches! I don't know if this forum is the best place to ask for info when searching for old movies/cartoons but I don't know of a dedicated forum for cartoons. If you know of one that would be helpful to me, please let me know!
The only thing I remember about this cartoon was that it began with a cat in some kind of science lab where experiments were being done on animals. Due to some accident, the cat manages to escape into the wild but is being hunted down by personnel with dogs. Eventually, the cat ends up at a riverbank and (somehow) transforms into a dog, eluding the pursuers who are not interested in it.
then again.. maybe it was a dog that turned into a cat. I can't remember it very well. I have very few memories as to where I saw this, but I do think that it was a 'short' and may have been tacked on to something else. And although this may seem odd, for some reason the garfield cartoon is in my head at the same time, though the animation style was vastly different.
There are a bunch of other cartoons I have memories of but cannot remember (or never knew) the names of, so if this thread is the appropriate place to list those questions as well, please let me know!
thanks

This was the "Lab Animal" animated sequence in the 1988 TV special "Garfield: His Nine Lives," based on the book of the same name.

Well, his 7th life.
I remember seeing the special when I was a kid. Creatively, it was fairly ambitious, since it utilized different animation and writing styles for each life. A number (most?) of the lives bear little resemblance to the Garfield character people are familiar with.

It was based on a book as well. One major difference was they turned one of the stories, "Babes and Bullets," into a stand alone TV special. The 9 Lives special was quite a departure from normal Garfield fare, and that part in particular was more like a short that would be seen on Liquid Television.
Oh, and this should now be in the TV forum.

Refreshing? Just subscribe to any thread where you care to see if anyone responds, which I hope would include threads you create.
