I I just got around to seeing this for the first time a handful of years ago. I thought it was brilliant.

My wife has carved her pumpkins for Halloween with a different Nightmare Before Christmas character for the last 6-7 years. It's been really fun. It's my 13-year-old daughter's favorite movie. I like it because I like the music and the character design is spectacular. I've seen it too many times now so I don't know if I will ever really watch it again but I get why it's so popular.

We saw the movie if front of a live symphony last year for Halloween. That was easily the most enjoyable movie experiences our family has ever had. I've seen the movie well over 50 times at this point and it's still one of my favorite movies of all time.

One of my favorite movies, I nearly picked JackSkellington as my screen name but some young punk upstart beat me to the punch. ;)
Danny Elfman came out and said its a Halloween movie about Xmas. so that is finally settled. https://www.radio.com/music/movies/d...ristmas-debate I recently made it to Disneyland ending a 10 year or so desire to see the Haunted Mansion done up for Nightmare Before Xmas and it was stunning and worth the wait as well as the trip. My wife and I must have went on it 4-5 times in 2 days at the park and I saw something new each ride. there are a few fandoms I fall under, the Dark Tower, Nightmare before Xmas and less now Star Wars since the last movie (that said the Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run was also epic and despite 40-45 min waits we went 3x on that as well... ) |

The special thing about this film for me is the Oingo Boingo/Danny Elfman crossover. This film is like the crossroads and the zenith of an amazingly talented musician. Oingo Boingo started way back in the 70’s, but the Danny Elfman 1980’s era saw them reach national fame. Still, it’s important to realize their local fame here in Southern California was far greater than their national fame. They were HUGE here. Their Halloween concerts were legendary. 1985 is this defining year where they release Dead Mans Party and Elfman scores Pee Wee’s Big Adventure for Tim Burton. After that a overlapping period begins where Elfman and the band are touring and recording and he is doing film scores. And through it all the band is closely associated with fun songs about dark subjects. It all finally culminates with this perfect project. A film musical, with score and lyrics by Danny Elfman. At this point he was a Pumpkin King. He was the Prince of Halloween in SoCal. The Oingo Boingo Halloween shows were what hip adults did on Halloween. The Dead Man’s Party album was what you played at your Halloween party. On top of that the clock was ticking for Oingo Boingo. Elfman was tired of the band, tired of Halloween (just like Jack), and ready to do something different. They changed a bit and became simply Boingo before having a farewell concert in 1995 that would see Elfman move on to just scoring films. |

My only complaint with TNBC is that the soundtrack has a nice opening monologue by Patrick Stewart that’s not in the actual movie. I’m not sure what the deal is with that.

It's also up on Youtube. Edit: Also closing narration: Edit 2: this article has some speculation about these narrations. that is a faboulous quilt! And thanks for Sharing the Patrick Stewert reading of the book! I love Sir Patrick and have been listening to him on the soundtrack for years. Aside for Purple Rain it may be my favorite sound track to listen to. :D

Did you happen to catch the PBS Live From Lincoln Center from Halloween about 4 years ago? It was Danny Elfman's Music from the films of Tim Burton. It was a full orchestra plus film clips and Danny Elfman singing for the second half. It was great. The whole thing used to be viewable online, but I can only find clips of it now.
