Re: Independent Spirit Awards -- Discussion Thread

Glad IFC could find time to celebrate independent films between blocks of Two and a Half Men and Everybody Loves Raymond.

Re: Independent Spirit Awards -- Discussion Thread

Marshawn Lynch nominated for Best Breakthrough Performance.

I appreciate wanting to spread around the awards, but Past Lives is a first feature, it should be competing in that category even though it's nominated for Best Feature as well. Otherwise, what does that Best First Feature award even mean -- Best First Feature Not Quite Good Enough To Compete for the Big Awards?
Also The Holdovers is David Hemingston's first screenplay. He should also be competing in Best First Screenplay, if they want to give out that award.

Re: Independent Spirit Awards -- Discussion Thread

Nice to see The Starling Girl nominated for screenplay. I thought it was an impressively affective movie, and I think that started from writing the characters as real people instead of religious caricatures for easy drama.
