Joss Whedon and the Terminator franchise belong together. Precious and oh-so-important to about 0.00001% of the population, while the rest of the world couldn't give a sloppy wet assblast to either.

How about they just give it back to the guy that made it and give him boat loads of cash and see what he could do with it? AKA James Cameron

I say give it back to Cameron and he just lets the series die like it should.

T3 & T4 added what exactly? Considering the franchise got to this point, those movies must not have done much.

Because James Cameron told the stories he wanted to tell within that franchise. I also think it's safe to assume that after two (un)successful sequels, he doesn't want any more involvement with the franchise.

Don't blame him, especially when Avatar is making him (and Fox) millions.

The answer is obvious: Aliens vs Terminators. :D

My statement was a slight nod to the fact that Cameron wouldn't do shit with the Terminator franchise. I just want him to own it again.

Update on Terminator rights: Sony Pictures and Lionsgate made bids, but it was sold to Pacificor, a hedge-fund company, for somewhere around 30 million.

^ Yep, the company that put Halcyon in the red to begin with bought the rights, essentially wiping out their debt. Now, the question is where will they set up shop to produce the next film?

Why doesn't the Terminator franchise just buy Joss Whedon?

Because Whedon lives in the US, not the USSR.

Holy crap, how did I miss this thread earlier. I would totally love this! I'm definitely a Firefly devotee and anything SciFi, Whedon cannot do wrong. I just hope that somehow he can get the money to do this. I'm guessing he'd need a pretty convincing pitch to a major studio to get them to shell out the cash to pick up the Terminator name...

As much as I enjoyed it (even loved it) towards the end, did you even see the clusterfuck that was Dollhouse? Fox's typical shenanigans aside, it was a really half-baked show that needed a whole lot of work. He's not infallible.

I agree, but it would still at the very least be a hell of a lot more interesting than anything McG would do with another shot.

Mark my words... in the coming months there will be an announcement of a Terminator reboot.

I've seen those before and wondered if they were any good.

And also wondered exactly how Terminators could exist in the same universe as the Aliens & Predators.

Or how Batman could.

Or how Robocop could blast Terminators.

I'd like to see what J.J Abrams could do for the Terminator franchise.

I watched about 5 minutes of this movie on Syfy, "The Terminators":

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1350512/

it aired after some Transmorphers prequel

Didn't it turn out that Robocop was a pseudo-prototype for the Terminators?

Yeah, but it's Frank Miller (before he completely lost his shit) and Walt Simonson doing Robocop vs. Terminator. That's all you really need to know. Continuity schmontinuity.

Though I do like to consider that William Gibson's unproduced Alien III, Aliens v1, Aliens v2, and Aliens: Earth War are the real continuation of the Alien franchise, and not the Alien^3 and Alien: Resurrrection. (The latter, which was written by you-know-who.)

People like to bash on Mr Whedon ever so often. But lets not forget that he did have a hand in the excellent Toy Story.

Fanboys like to emotionally fellate Mr. Whedon ever so often. But let's not forget that he did write the abominable "Do you know what happens to a toad when it gets struck by lightning? The same thing that happens to everything else!" line for the sorta average first X-Men movie.

(Yes Whedonites, I've read all about how it was presented "out of context" by Singer's direction and Berry's delivery. I've know about the original context. It still blows.)
