Re: National Lampoon's Vacation "sequel" in the works...

All three were hits in the 80's. The first one made 61 million. That's really good for a modest budgeted R-rated movie in the 80's.

I liked it too, but now, with the parents getting older, it would seem kinda silly to have the kids still be 14, 15, 16 years old or however old they were. I wouldn't mind seeing the kids grown up, as long as it wasn't about them, and the originals from the first film were back. I think it would be really cool.

The series is dead... move on. Honestly, I don't think there's a chance in hell that this will be any good.

I also remember seeing a lot of those movies in the theater. Staying Alive was a hit? I've always been under that assumption it was huge flop.

With Dobkin on board, we will probably get Vince Vaughn in the leading role. Ugh.

It would be silly to keep them young at this point. I always thought the bigger joke was the fact that that they were portrayed by different actors in every film.

If you've seen Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase lately you can tell they are getting old. Definitely not parents of early teens.

a. John Travolta at the top of his game, shortly after Grease and Urban Cowboy
b. Director Sylvestor Stalone, also at the top of his game, shortly after Rocky 1, 2, and 3, and First Blood.
c. Sequal to Saturday Night Fever

And I also saw 6 or 7 of those movies at the theater, and the others on VHS.

Well you sound like the resident expert. Tell me everything you know about the original ending to the first film.

Also, this sequel doesn't sound too bad. With the right actors (Neil Patrick Harris does sound like a good idea) this could work.

I don't want to insult his fans, but I don't understand those of you who say there is no movie w/out Chevy. The Chevy of today is not the Chevy of the past. Vegas Vaction was funny in spite of Chevy not because of him. He was the least funny thing in the movie.

How do they have the same car?

They had a different one in "Christmas Vacation".

It's a promotional film, not an actual sequel.

Re: National Lampoon's Vacation "sequel" in the works...

"In November, the popular vacation rental website Home Away announced that they were going to “reunite actors Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo in its new national advertising campaign that will recapture the spirit of the 1980s comedy classic, NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION.” The campaign is set to premiere this Sunday during the Super Bowl with a 30-second “mock movie trailer,” which you can see after the jump.

The fake trailer idea is pretty clever. Its purpose is to drive viewers to the Home Away site, where they can see a 15-minute short film titled HOTEL HELL VACATION and learn about what the website offers. It might not be the real thing, but I’m excited to see it."

Chase has actually found a new lease on his career as he's fucking brilliant on Community, although this "short" seems disastrous.

The kids have been played by numerous different actors and you're wondering why they've got the same car? Most likely, it's because that's the vehicle people associate with the family.

I'll take this. Chase as Clark is always gold.

mcfly, have you heard anything about Chase going back to the Australian script/premise for a new sequel? I thought I read that somewhere since the new movie is starting to be drafted.

Well, I can see the different actors as either they were busy/they wanted someone who was a certain age/just because. It was even a joke by the 4th movie.

I just find it odd they would still have the same car almost 30 years later.

No, that idea died back in the late 80s. I've only heard what's been reported so far.

I didn't even know about this 'film' premiering tomorrow.
