Blasphemy. Grimlock was the bomb. I loved when he got super smart and then created his own Transformers.

And actually I liked the Constructicons/Devastator. Probably my favorite episode ever was the one where Omega Supreme was telling the story about how he and the Constructicons used to be friends but then they turned on him. Even the Insecticons were ok I guess.

I liked the original the best when the only "big guys" were Omega Supreme, who really didn't do much other than mope around, Devastator, Tripticon, who got his ass beat every single time and always ended up getting thrown into the ocean and the big city dude--Metroplex I think his name was.

It got idiotic when every episode introduced a new "big guy"

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

i liked them as a kid as well, but at 37 looking back on it the dinobots were retarts and the whole story was based for the mind of a 7 year old. Bay is a genius for turning this into movies that adults can watch. i don't like everything about the movies, but overall i liked the first two

and i just checked wikipedia and the constructicons did come after voltron which was based on a Japanese story

Metroplex was probably my coolest toy.

with bad CGI
Can you pass me some of what you are smoking? Did you even watch the same trailer I did? The CG in these films is nothing short of state of the art, and this looks no different. Whether the film is worth a toss is something else entirely.

If the movies had less Shia and other humans and was just robot action, they'd be better.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

The only humans I'd keep are the soldiers. They show off the scale of the bots and how practically impossible they are to kill by mere humans. Even if they manage to get a few kills in on lesser grunts, it's usually a large coordinated affair to accomplish just that. It makes the robot on robot bashing even more impressive when you know how hard these things are to kill.

I'd keep Sam and the soldiers. He's an emotional link to the transformers..the problem w/ that is that they don't really write him well.

Also...wtf happened w/ that extra that got hurt pretty bad?

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Filming was temporarily delayed on September 2, 2010 in Hammond, Indiana, when an extra was seriously injured during a stunt. The accident happened when a steel cable snapped from a car being towed, owing to a failed weld, hitting the extra's car and damaging her skull. The extra, identified as Gabriella Cedillo, had to undergo brain surgery.[33] The injury has left her permanently brain-damaged, paralyzed on her left side and her left eye stitched shut.[34][35] As a result, Paramount took responsibility for the accident and covered all medical costs incurred by Cedillo.[36] In spite of this, on October 5, Cedillo's family filed a lawsuit, which cites seven counts of negligence against Paramount, D.W. Studios and several other defendants (not including Bay), with total damages sought in excess of US$350,000.[37]
Surprised they're only going after $350,000.

It says they're seeking damages "in excess of $350,000." I suspect that when the bean counters are finished, we'll find out that's just a baseline figure from which the actual number is derived. That figure, I would guess, reflects whatever their formula shows would have been her potential earnings as a stunt performer had the incident not occurred. And even that seems low, though I don't claim to know anything about stunt performer pay scale. Whatever the case, $350k surely is not punitive in nature.

holy fuck...wow. That's shitty to live on.

I'm going to assume that it's going to take a lot more to take care of that girl than $350,000. Damn. I'm just thinking about that damage done to her. *shudder*

The wording in the quoted article is a little ambiguous, but it states that "Paramount took responsibility for the accident and covered all medical costs incurred by Cedillo." It could be that longterm care is part of "all medical costs." That would be in keeping with my speculation that the $350k is based on a formula projecting Cedillo's lost potential earnings as a stunt performer, rather than a figure meant to reflect her actual needs--which could be a non-issue for Cedillo and her family already, depending on what "all medical costs" means.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

^ I read an article back in February that said that Paramount reneged on the promise to pay the medical bills and still at that time hadn't paid a dime.

Anyway, I'm not impressed yet. ROTF also had an awesome trailer.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Looking into this further, it seems that the initial figure sought was "in excess of $50,000." Gossipvita.com ran an update in October:

Gabriela Cedillo’s attorney Todd Smith tells us the 350K only covers her initial month long hospital stay — and does not include other costs like an airlift, ambulance rides, and the rehab facility where Gabriela is now.
Also, from another article of theirs dated 6 October:

But Smith says the lawsuit filed yesterday on Gabriela’s behalf will go forward no matter what. Smith says, “Medical bills are just the beginning … her ability to earn income is enormously affected.”

Smith added Paramount hasn’t actually bucked up yet, but he believes they will once Gabriela’s current medical expenses are calculated.
So I was right that at some point her expected lost earnings will be calculated as part of the figure, but that $350k wasn't it.

For anyone interested in reading the actual complaint filed in court, here it is. I was under the impression that she was a stunt performer, but it appears instead that she was merely an extra who was effectively recruited into the performance of a stunt. I'm stunned that the stunt coordinator would have allowed that, since it's been my understanding that those people are obsessive about the safety of their work, knowing how easily it can go wrong.

I'd keep Sam and a female interest for sure. The soldiers never seem to have anything to do. And when they do they have no effect against the robots. Tanks and planes yes, soldiers not so much.

I am really hoping for a Grimlock cameo but I don't have my hopes up. I'm sure we'll get another robot with balls instead.

Yeah...I mean we like to think of them as crazy awesome guys w/ an adrenaline rush or whatever....but....stunts is a science now. They got it down hardcore for the most part. To see an extra involved in something like that....yeah...not sure wtf happened there or why she was allowed to be there.

I don't think we need a female character at all. They're ultimately worthless here.

The soldiers have had effect against the robots on the ground..it's harder for them obviously but they get it done. In reference...I'm using the end of the first film...I don't really remember TF2, I only saw it once.

Brain damaged while making the film and she can't even enjoy it in 3D now!

Just saw the trailer. Ugh. It looks only slightly better than 1 and 2....but that still doesn't make it good. Have they fixed Bumblebee's no talking thing yet ? It didn't show in the ad, if they did.

Yeah, I'm wondering about that too. I wouldn't mind Bumblebee actually putting in some input...actually most of the other Autobots.

not really...it's a 2:28 trailer we don't a "boom" till 1:10...and it wasn't even a big one at point. Unless you're going by the horns going off in the music.

We see Sam adjusting Bumblebee's "pacifier" in this new trailer so maybe they finally permanently fix his vocal processors.

Re: Transformers 3 Announced

Finally got around to watching the latest trailer (my router has begun to freak out any time I've tried to stream it until now). Very exciting stuff. Optimus Prime indicates that information about the Transformers was withheld from them. I wonder if they find out through Wikileaks. Also, it appears that Shockwave is a key figure in the Chicago assault. I'm really hoping that's a sign he's the ruthless bastard I remember from the comics, rather than just another lackey (as he was in the animated series). This has the potential to be the most enjoyable summer outing of the year--and I've been looking forward to a Green Lantern movie since some time in the early 90s.

Off-topic, has anyone caught Transformers: Prime? The first episode is free on iTunes so I downloaded and watched that the other night and really liked it. I saw another episode on HUB last night. Orci & Kurtzman developed it, so it's similar in tone and aesthetics to the live action series. It's got Peter Cullen as Optimus and Frank Welker as Megatron. I remember Bay rejected Welker for the films because he felt Welker's aged voice was a bad fit for the look of Megatron, but it works perfectly here. (I'm not second-guessing Bay here; I readily acknowledge that there's a difference between a large-scale, live action movie and an animated TV series.) I'll forget to be a regular viewer, but I dig what I've seen.
