Summer 2011

So, with all of these announcements on impending release dates it struck me that, forget summer of '10, summer '11 looks to be where all the big boys are gonna play.

So far we've got the following lined up:

Spidey 4
Thor
Hangover 2
Green Lantern
Transformers 3
HP 7, Pt. 2
Capt. America
Pirates 4
Star Trek 2

Now, I'm not saying all, or most, of these are going to be any good. But it sure looks like there are some serious tentpoles set up for the summer after next. IMO, summer '10 looks fairly weak in comparison. Aside from Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4 there aren't many "big" pictures lined up. I'm more excited for Predators and Expendables, but those (more than likely) aren't going to be massive hits.

Re: Summer 2011

looks like overkill on the superhero front.

Sad to say that I am not excited for any of those, but I will wait for trailers to make judgements on whether or not I choose to see any.

I wonder where the direction of the sequel to the Hangover is gonna go? Back to Vegas or to some other destination? New Orleans possibly?

Re: Summer 2011

Green Lantern, Thor and Captain America are some pretty distinctive properties that could go one way or another. It'll definitely be interesting following the development of those three films. To say the least.

Yet another completely unnecessary sequel.

I can picture it now along the lines of Godfather 2 and lampooned in the Family Guy:

Bradley Cooper, standing outside his hotel room where the now deceased Ms. Holloway is laying, with a stunned and terrified look on his face.

He keeps repeating over and over, "I don't know how this could have happened. I didn't kill her, I didn't kill her, I didn't kill her."

Then Zach Galfianikis comes up to Cooper and tries to console him by saying, "It's ok. It wasn't your fault. She doesn't have any family or friends here. No one will ever find out what happened here."

I'm going to hell.

Re: Summer 2011

I'd be shocked if Green Lantern, Thor, Captain America and Spider-Man all opened in the same summer, no matter what the studios say right now.

Re: Summer 2011

That's superhero overkill. Imagine if Nolan and Co. came in and shit out Batman 3 in 2011 (although highly unlikely).

I didn't know Green Lantern was moved to the summer. I thought it was still Winter 2010.

1 WB, 2 Paramount, and 1 Sony. It wouldn't be hard to believe that those films would come out. Spidey for sure will have the early May slot as it did for SM3 I believe.

Yeah, it'll (TDK2) be the summer 2012 event.

As for GL, I think production got delayed a few months (I think because of the Australian currency or something), but it was better off as a summer movie anyway.

Awful planning on Marvel's part. After the success of last year, we only get one freaking Marvel flick this year and it ended up being blah. Next year, only Iron Man 2. Why so long for Spidey 4?

Re: Summer 2011

Again...Spidey belongs to Sony. Wolverine is with Fox. Marvel Has nothing to do with the films it doesn't own the movie rights to. So in reality Marvel hasn't release anything this year.

I realize they come from different studios...but someone is going to look at a calendar and flinch.

And I won't be seeing any of those in Theaters. Might catch Pirates 4 on a rental.

Can Hollywood come up with anything original anymore? Geez, no wonder I don't go to the movies anymore...

Re: Summer 2011

The only films of those listed I am legitimately looking foward to are Thor & ST2. I have absolutely zero interest in all the others, GL while one of my favorite comic book characters, is just ruined by the casting. Hopefully I'll be wrong, but not likely. Captain America I will wait to see a trailer before I make any judgement.

WOW! That is quite an incredible list. I don't know if my geekier side can handle all that. Are there even enough weekends in the Summer?

Spidey 4
TF 3
Potter 7 pt. 2
Pirates 4

All will almost be guaranteed over $300 million

And the rest could potentially be over $200 million

That will be quite an insane year.
