PARANORMAL ACTIVITY - Get the word out!

Re: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY - Get the word out!
I didn't even watch the trailer. The original post seemed more like spam than someone who genuinely liked the movie. The subsequent posts seemed more like people fucking with the OP than actually wanting to see it. I was apparently wrong, but that was the impression I originally got.

I have a reservation to see this at a special screening in L.A. in 4 days. I love horror, and the movie seems interesting. Admittedly, the trailer was kind of "meh", but the word of mouth out here is enough for me.

We are one of the lucky cities getting a screening beginning this Friday. Studio 35 is having a midnight showing on both Friday & Saturday. I'll be there.

Looking foward to your posts after you guys see this. I'm not a Blair Witch hater at all, IMO it's one of the truly scariest films ever made, mostly b/c of it's simplicity (& that I was actually lost in the woods once camping). So if this is the type of film that is truly scary in it's simplicity, I'll buy into the hype.

Re: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY - Get the word out!
Read this interesting tidbit last night on /film.
* Steven Spielberg had taken a Paranormal Activity DVD screener to his Pacific Palisades estate, and not long after he watched it, “the door to his empty bedroom inexplicably locked from the inside.” The famous director was forced to call a locksmith, and returned the screener back to Dreamworks in a garbage bag, certain that his copy of the movie was haunted.
* When DreamWorks made a deal to acquire Paranormal Activity, it originally didn’t include a theatrical release. The studio wanted to produce a bigger budget remake of the film with director Oren Peli (his original film would be included with the remake’s DVD).
* The contract required DreamWorks to hold one test screening before starting the remake. Several screenwriters were invited to the March 2008 test screening in Burbank in the hopes of finding a scribe for the new version. Moviegoers began walking out of the screening, claiming they weren’t bored but scared. After the screening it was decided to release the original in theaters.
* Peli is about to start filming his second feature, another original, found-video thriller called Area 51 which is described as a “claustrophobic terror”.
Read the whole article now on the Los Angeles Times website.

^ Good read. I'm thinking the LA screening is gonna be packed now that the Times ran that story. Guess I'll be seeing many of you there. I hope it rocks.

Uch, I was planning to get there around 10 PM, since it will be overbooked. Now, with that article, I'll have to get there no later than 8 PM.

Yea, no shit. Luckily, for me, Bloody Disgusting is putting this on and I'm friends with the guy who runs it, so I may have an easy in, overbooking be damned. At least, I hope so. I gotta work that day!

Still psyched. Woke up last night to a weird sound, and looked at everything (including half-open closet door) bathed in weird green light from alarm clock. this looks like a movie that will pay big dividends in the wee hours ...

Definitely. I actually made it into that Cameron double feature because of the post you made about it a while back, and I had to show up pretty early. This one is definitely 8 or earlier.

Overbooked by 1,500 people? Damn, I didn't plan on having to get there so early. I guess I'll swing by at 8 and wait if there is already a decent line starting.

Re: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY - Get the word out!
After the article in the Times and this tidbit, I'm really thinking I might not even bother. I mean, I'd like to see it... but this is a little ridiculous. I can wait until next month. No movie is worth 4-6 hours in line.

Note that "Overbooking by 1500 people" means they accepted 1500 of those RSVPs. It does not mean that 1500 people will show up. Some won't bother, some will think they're too late, others will get busy, etc. Make no mistake, people will get turned away. I just don't think 1200-1300 people will get turned away.
