Solomon Kane
Looks interesting. Good cast.
Plot: The first part in a trilogy series, "Solomon Kane" is an epic adventure adapted from the classic pulp stories by Robert E. Howard, creator of "Conan the Barbarian." Solomon Kane (James Purefoy) is a 16th Century soldier who learns that his brutal and cruel actions have damned him. Determined to redeem himself, Kane swears to live a life of peace and goodness but is forced to fight once more when a dark power threatens the land. Directed by Michael J. Bassett, starring James Purefoy, Max von Sydow, Pete Postlethwaite, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alice Krige, Mackenzie Crook |
Re: Solomon Kane
If it is any good at all (and it looks like it may be) it will rock so hard.
Robert E. Howard was genius and anything the man ever wrote would kick all kinds of ass on screen. |

Re: Solomon Kane
I just saw the trailer pop up and came here to see if anybody had posted about it. Looks like I was just a tad behind. Interestingly Wiki says Christopher Lambert was offered the role earlier in the decade when the project was first getting off the ground.

Re: Solomon Kane
Trailer no work anymore. :(

Re: Solomon Kane
I sat through the Comic-Con panel for this movie while waiting for another one. I'd never heard of it but thought it looked pretty good if you're into that kind of movie. Not sure if I'd see it but it did spark some interest.

Re: Solomon Kane
I've heard the name but never knew what it was. Looks interesting...

Re: Solomon Kane
That looks badass! Sign me up.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
This is what Van Helsing was supposed to be about (and don't tell me that movie didn't rip off Howard's source material). It might be cheesy, but I am interested.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
Looks pretty freaking cool.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
Wow. This looks totally badass. Can't wait to see it. And Dr. DVD is right, this what Van Helsing should have been. And I say that as someone that didn't hate that movie.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
I don't think a Van Helsing film w/ Sommers could've turned out like this. :)

Spoiler:
Is this supposed to be a U.S. release, or only overseas? |
Re: Solomon Kane
Stupid movie copying Van Helsing (that movie rocked!), why don't they get an original idea?

I hope you're being sarcastic, as this character was around years before Van Helsing (the Sommer's version anyway).

Re: Solomon Kane
The trailer for this looks pretty damn cool.
I'm almost finished with the R.E.H Conan stories. Kull and Solomon Kane are next. |
Re: Solomon Kane
US release date? I know it's playing at the Toronto Film Festival.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
Hmmm...interesting. Worth a look-see methinks
|
Re: Solomon Kane
Looks like my next 'greatest movie ever!'
Itll be tough as that hasnt happened since Ravenous and 13th Warrior |
Re: Solomon Kane
I'm totally in.

Re: Solomon Kane
This looks like something that should have premiered on the USA channel years ago between reruns of Renegade, Xena, and Hercules.

Re: Solomon Kane
^ Totally disagree but to each his own.

Re: Solomon Kane
Crap, Crap, Crap!
First review I've read by Bloody-disgusting.com (I usually agree with their reviews) gave it 1 out of 10 stars . Here is a quote from their spoiler filled review: "How can you lose with Demons, swordfights, witches, knights and a whopping $60m budget? Ask Uwe Boll as this horror fantasy is one of the dullest, poorly acted and heartless films I’ve seen all year. " The review spoils the ending but you can find it here: http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/4187/review |
Re: Solomon Kane
^ I will say that this kind of confirms the gut feeling I had with the trailer; that it's something that should have gone straight to DVD. While some of it looks bad a$$, they would obviously put the best stuff in the preview. Of course it still has a while before general release, so they could do some fine tuning. Also, Uwe Boll did not direct this one last I checked.

Re: Solomon Kane
If nothing else, this might be a fun "six-pack" kind of movie, kind of like I would classify the movie "Doomsday" or "Underworld:Rise of the Lycans." Highly entertaining, but watch only with a good alcohol buzz! ;)
|
Re: Solomon Kane
I don't get all the hate in the review. As for the ending, I kind of expected that. Heck, even Conan The Barbarian ends on an anti-climax (how easy was it to confront Thulsa Doom after the battle on the mounds?) and no one seems to mind. And there's plenty in that movie that also comes out of nowhere (the horny witch, Thulsa Doom transforming into a snake, the snake cults, etc.). This just seems in line with Robert E. Howard inspired movies.

Re: Solomon Kane
I never listen to reviews by Mr. Disgusting. He's got fucking terrible taste in horror movies!

Re: Solomon Kane
"Purefoy is the reigning king of Puritan Chic." rotfl
I so want to see that on one of the posters. :D |

I just heard of and saw the trailer for this movie this morning, and am already anxious to see it. |

Nice. |
Re: Solomon Kane
This is PG-13 right? If so that's disappointing, but I'm still interested in giving it a chance. Reviews from critics I trust have given me hope.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
I doubt it. this looks like an easy R to me.
|
Re: Solomon Kane
Any news on a release date?
|
Re: Solomon Kane
Nope. But here's another poster:
http://geektyrant.com/wp-content/upl...omon-Kane.jpeg EDIT: I found the following on Wikipedia. On October 23rd, 2009, Bassett announced on his blog that "Kane is slowly gearing up for its first set of release dates at the end of this year and early 2010". |
Re: Solomon Kane
Oh and here's the trailer in 720p and 1080p: http://trailerfreaks.com/trailer_pro...Solomon%20Kane
