Got to vote against (or re-vote against) more hated '90s movies: MAGNOLIA, FIGHT CLUB, FARGO, SHAWSHANK, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL.
Favorites in this bunch:
PULP FICTION (tough one, 'cause I like 12 MONKEYS a great deal also)
ED WOOD
GROUNDHOG DAY
UNFORGIVEN

Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Round of 32/Group #2
most of these were easy. Though I like all of the films, save for Groundhog Day, none of my absolute favorites were paired.
Pulp Fiction (own and love 12 Monkeys)
Magnolia (consider Ed Wood to be Burton's best film)
Fight Club (own and love Usual Suspects, hardest matchup)
Fargo (no contest)
Shawshank Redemption (2nd hardest matchup, own and LOVE Leon)
L.A. Confidential (no contest) it's the underdog to OFFICE SPACE?
Terminator 2 (own and love Unforgiven)
Boogie Nights (favorite film of the 90's, and consider Reservoir Dogs good, though extremely inferior most on the list)
sorry Leon.

Re: Favorite Movie of the 90's: Round of 32/Group #2
Matchup #1
Pulp Fiction vs 12 Monkeys- Well look. I liked 12 Monkeys the once or twice that I saw it but Pulp Fiction is a classic that I just can't get tired of. It's the most exciting slow-paced film ever. Seriously if you pay attention to how agonizingly slow the film moves, it's amazing how entertaining it is. I mean, we have to watch every staggering step Travolta takes from his car to Mia's door. Cono. But somehow it works.
Matchup #2
Ed Wood vs Magnolia- I don't know. I loved Ed Wood, but Magnolia for all it's problems (insanely indulgent and way too long) is just such a passionate work of art, and Ed Wood feels a bit like a cartoon. Gotta go with P.T.A.
Matchup #3
Fight Club vs The Usual Suspects- Feh. This again. I've only seen each movie once and while I barely remember The Usual Suspects, it was entertaining. Truth is I usually don't like "heist" movies and have asked Hollywood to take a fucking moratorium on them already for crying out fracking loud. But Fight Club is infuriating because it's so brilliantly made, but such a nihilistic piece of trash. Can't vote for it. Shouldn't have voted for either, but there you have it.
Matchup #4
Fargo vs Groundhog Day- Come on! Boring, forgettable, cooler-than-thou, let's-make-fun-of-those-midwesterners-like-they're-space-aliens and have Bill Macey squeal like a pig OR a fantastic concept pulled off brilliantly. I still remember vividly watching Groundhog Day for he first time and being completely mesmerized by the situation. How on earth could this happen, but my god what tantalizing possibilities. The chick can't act for shit, but Murray makes up for it.
Matchup #5
The Shawshank Redemption vs Leon: The Professional- Difficult. While I've watched Leon more times and have a lot of affection for it, I think Shawshank is probably the better film.
Matchup #6
LA Confidential vs Office Space-While LA Confidential is definitely the better film, I just love Office Space and find myself wanting to watch it frequently.
Matchup #7
Terminator 2 vs Unforgiven- Not sure how to compare these. I saw Unforgiven once in the theatre and barely remember anything except I thought it was good. Terminator 2 is fucking awesome and so much better than it had any right to be. Such great filmmaking.
Matchup #8
Boogie Nights vs Reservoir Dogs[/QUOTE]- Boogie Nights is the greatest film of all time.
