Re: Zombie talk
Then what are your thoughts on the zombie that learns to use a gun and salute in Romero's Day of the Dead? And the lead zombie in Romero's Land of the Dead being able to lead an army of zombies? If zombie's are able to use guns and lead an army then they should be able to run and stop

Re: Zombie talk
As for shamblers, by the very thought that once they're turned, they have limited brain capacity or are in this sort of lust for the food that doesn't provide them with much thought process to use on the movement of their legs, add in that rigor is going to kick in. Don't have blood cycling in your system, then your leg is going to turn blue or not have the proper lube to move like it should.
As I've grown up, my view of shamblers has become very similar to Barbara's in NOTLD 90. "Whats the worry? We can walk right past them" Then the only scary zombie is the one you used to know while alive. That is creepy. But once they are free to move without the restriction of pain, then all of them are scary and you need to stay on your toes.
I don't argue the 'science' of the zombie because its silly, in the end it comes down to which you like to see on screen...
and as of now, I'm looking forward to this:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tP_YlJL8NJk&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tP_YlJL8NJk&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
much more than I am this:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bAPABAYczkE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bAPABAYczkE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
However, news has broke that AMC has tapped Frank Darabont to adapt Robert Kurtmans The Walking Dead series into a tv miniseries. And I love that comic.

Re: Zombie talk
Damn, Zombieland looks friggin sweet. And with gore scenes intact? Sign me the hell up! One of my biggest gripes about the last few zombie flicks I've seen if that they've been relatively gore-free. Sure, maybe the ocassional headshot, but I miss the good old days where you'd had people being torn apart like loaves of fresh bread at an Italian banquet. Damn you MPAA!

Re: Zombie talk
that trailer for the Romero film can't be real. it seems like a spoof Gtv or someone would do. is he doing it with his lunch budget? man that looks bad (and not the good bad). I know I'll watch it but I'll be damn if I like it.

Re: Zombie talk
A bit unfair, writing it off completely based on just a few random teaser scenes. But yeah, compared to Zombieland it does seem a bit lifeless. Can't be any worse than Land of the Dead though.

Re: Zombie talk
well, I did say I would watch it. and teasers are supposed to make you want to see something or find out more about it. i don't get that with this. btw, I saw and commented before I saw the trailer for zombieland so i probably feel even stronger about my original post now.

I'm assuming you haven't seen "Diary of the Dead". I couldn't even make it to the end of that one.

Re: Zombie talk
Yes I've seen 'Diary'. It was okay, but not on the same 'wtf is this?!' level as 'Land'. Jeez, what happened to Romero?
But after these two, and some British flick called 'The Zombie Diaries', I'm really in need of a GOOD zombie movie.

pretty much. It's the impending doom that gets you. You can run faster than them. yes, but run where? They'll eventually get you.
Just goes to show you that people lack patience these days.

I'll absolutely second Dance of the Dead...just a ridiculous amount of (intentional) fun.

Re: Zombie talk
Well I didn't say I thought 'Dairy' was great. 'Servicable' would be an apt description.
Thanks for the film recomendations guys. I'm off to check out Amazon.
Pretty much how I see it. Being chased by fast zombies isn't that much different from being chased by any other angry mob. Like you said, you might outrun the slow ones. But you're just going to run right into another horde. Damn things are everywhere.
*Zombie thought of the day*
How might the ending of the DotD remake have been different if someone at the mall had thought to keep buckets of marbles and golf balls handy?

Re: Zombie talk
Just finished watching Dead Set and it was great. Was kind of surprised by the level of gore for a television show. I was kind of disappointed that the shows were only 25 minutes and not a full hour, especially for a mini-series.

Re: Zombie talk
Fortunately they can get away with a lot more on British tv. And boy did they ever!
Just finished watched it as well and was really impressed. This is how zombie films should be done. Brutal and in your face. Nothing cool about the zombies or the gore effects. I'm tempted to call it a sequel to the Dawn of the Dead remake.
As for Dance, I've checked it outr and think I'll pass. Seems a bit too much like Return of the Living Dead. Zombies, high school kids and comedy just aren't a mixture I care for.

Re: Zombie talk
then move along. nothing to see here.
So, devilshalo, would you say that this "hunger" is animal like? or something else? I'm just thinking that if there is some sort of animalistic instinct (not rational) then maybe they should be able to run or at least try to run until reality kicks in, i.e. rotten legs, etc.

Like many reptiles and Fish who seem slow and lethargic...until prey comes around...then they have lightening reflexes. I see it every time I feed my snake.

Re: Zombie talk
that's exactly what I'm talking about. some sort animal instinct to feed that would make running reasonable, in my mind.

Re: Zombie talk
Running is fine, but they shouldn't look like Usain Bolt coming after you. They should be clumsy, because if that's the case, babies and toddlers don't need to learn to walk. They should just pop out of the womb and hit the ground running.
And zombies shouldn't stop running if you point a weapon at them.

As far as not stopping that depends on the TYPE of Zombie. If it's a mindless Zombie like in NOTLD '68 then yeah, they should keep coming at you as long as they're still "living" and mobility hasn't been degraded due to gun damage. If it's the demonic Zombies of Brian Keene's book "The Rising", then they may very well stop because they can think, speak, and do other complex things with the dead bodies they reanimate so clearly they have a survival instinct.

to Dead Set. Just finished it the other day. With a bit of editing the series would make a fantastic movie.
