Really? I thought Davy Jone's CGI was a lot more realistic then Gollum.......

Actually you're right. I missed the first sentence in your post about solely ranking based on realistic CGI. I was going by characters.

I can only think of two:

The Faun (Pan's Labyrinth)
The Arachnids (Starship Troopers)

The Faun wasn't CGI at all.

Davy Jones, King Kong, Gollum, Optimus Prime, Tooth Fairies (Hellboy II).

I couldnt list them but my top 5 would be ones that I didnt even notice were CGI.
That to me is a truly great indication of quality in CGI. Not even noticing it.

Good lord, Devastator? That was nothing but a big background straight out of a video game.

Great point, I still continue to forget they were CGI. It doesn't help though that I have seen the costume they built for a reference model in person though.

Good call on Dragonheart. Very impressive for 1996.

Davy Jones did that for me. I thought only his face was CG but it turns out everything was.

It really did blow me away back then. Terrible picture I posted though, that talon looks very out of place.

The only thing they did digital to the faun was to erase Doug Jone's legs in that bright green fabric. EVERYTHING on the faun itself though is a physical part of the suit..even the legs...look at the special features on the faun..great stuff. Del Toro is really original with thinking of the simplest things where others would totally go complex.
