Oh man, the scoprion king had to be one of the worst.

Were Nute Gunray and the monsters from Pitch Black CGI?

I agree about the velociraptors, king kong, davy jones, gollum, etc. Not sure what else to name.

Nute Gunray was a guy in a suit and puppet head. The monsters from Pitch Black were CGI.

Nothing really comes close to Davy Jones. Most people never even knew he was CG - still don't. Gollum was great too - most of the time.

I know that Davy Jones is CG *NOW*, I didn't before I saw the behind the scenes creation. I know Bill Nighy was motion captured for the role, but he was all CG covered.

I actually got to see a trade show video that ILM does to show off what they can do, plus a guy who worked on the animation script//math/algorithms/whatever for the tentacles on DAvy Jones' face.

Lots of "Indiana Jones", "Iron Man", and "Pirates" in that trade video, but not a single mention or showing of David Schwimmer. Puzzling.

King Kong
Oliver Reed in Gladiator (hey, I couldn't tell)
Gollum
T-1000
Godzilla '98 (the movie may have sucked, but he looked pretty damn cool for a big iguana)
