Also, Transformers 2 has an Audi R8. Audi is part of VW, so this may be the right answer.

I also saw that one of the constructicons was a volvo which is owned by Ford right?

I had a movie buff co-worker tell me the same "its like a big car commercial" and I told him the original cartoon was nothing more than a commercial for toys.

It seems the commercial aspect remains, but the "toys" got bigger and more expensive.
Thats an example of had badly GM was run. They took too long getting the Camaro back to the market. (2002-2009) From June to next December you can order a 'limited edition' Bumblebee Camaro that looks like the one from this film, except GM managed to screw that up also. You don't get the same yellow paint.

So how many people, after the first movie, bought an Optimus Prime cab truck? As people have stated, the concept camaro wasn't even out long after the movie came out. And the bad guys were a tank, a helicopter, a jet, a police cruiser, some weird construction vehicle, etc. It's a toy commercial.
Porsche bailed on Hasbro because of the alternators, and I'm going to guess that is why they made Jazz a GM product in the movies instead.

FWIW, Sideswipe was supposed to be a Ferrari but Bay wanted the concept Vette. The man doesn't really care about keeping characters/vehicles the same or using different auto brands. Therefore, the autobots look like a GM commercial.

I have to laugh at the Nazi...I mean German...car companies not wanting their vehicles used. The connection honestly had never occured to me, never in all the years of watching the cartoon.

But now you all tell me there's an Audi in the new film...interesting.

Actually, GM paid for airtime/commercials for the 2007 Transformers film. So, technically, it's more the other way around.

That's a shame, I'm actually hearing very good things about the new Camaro.

I tell my GF, if this had been GM circa the 1950's, that Camaro would have been in dealerships opening day of the movie.

Even in the late 90's that car would have been there for people to buy while the movie was in theaters. GM lost some $$ with this.
