^ I just picked up a copy at Wal-Mart for 9.95. Looking forward to seeing this. I have no interest in the TS version.

One bird, two stones:
As the OP, I can understand why you feel the need to defend "your" movie. I just don't see any point in supporting tired retreaded ideas, nor in joining in the masses who lay down their hard-earned cash to reward Hollywood for continuing to just "turn the crank".
I'm not obligated to support products lacking in originality. Give me something inspiring and I'm all over it. Fail to do so, and I'll harp and whine and point out the shortcomings until the cows come home. The only way to improve the product is to stop supporting inferior versions of it. Granted, superior and inferior are clearly in the eyes of the beholder, but the moviegoing public has really lowered the bar over the past decade or so, and Hollywood has adapted to produce films tailored to the lowest common denominator.
Well, I think your initial post came across more as a threadcrap than any legitimate opinion/criticism/review of this new version which sounds to me you didn't even bother seeing.
It's fine and dandy that you saw the original back when it was brand spanking new in 1974, however, I think your opinion would have been more respected if you saw this movie and offered more articulation and comparison with the original than just saying Hollywood sucks and is in a rut right now.

That would be like me going into a TV Show thread and bashing it/criticizing it's unoriginality without having even watched the episode. You may think otherwise, but your comments IMO are threapcrap.
And I'm not defending this movie, because I just thought it was just good (B to B- level) And I have not seen the original either. But, at least I watched it and offered some insight into what I thought of it rather than type a diatribe of stuff that has nothing to do with this film.

But, your missing my point though. If you are so down/pissed off with Hollywood and remakes, why would you bother wasting your time coming into a review thread of this movie and offer nothing more than bashing/threadcrap without having even seen the movie.

(2) Diatribe? Need I point out that you've tossed out twice as much "diatribe" (227 words/1076 characters) is twice mine? (109/517).

I was done several posts ago. If you need the last word, go ahead. I said what I meant to say waaaaay back with my first post. (61/361 btw)

BTW - Sorry 'bout the apparent original Threadcrap. It was as a critique of Hollywood, not a critique of this thread.

thought this was very so-so. not bad, just nothing great and simply doesn't compare to Mathau and Shaw in the original. i loved the original, one of those gems i never heard of and then because of this one played on pay cavle and i was wowed.
one question...some reviewer somewhere said there was some kinda twist at the end. i didn't see anything. was there?

Do you watch Attack of the Show? Chris Gore mentioned "twist after twist after twist" on DVDuesday last week. I'm not sure what movie he watched, but I wish I had seen that one. It had to have been better than the one I saw.

Given the cast and director this was pretty disappointing. Seeing Travolta go over the top a few times was the best thing about it... someone needed to breath some life into this thing.

Missed this during the summer, glad I did. I thought this was pretty much average. Really hated the ending, it was about as standard as you could get and stupid to boot.

I thought the only interesting scene was when Travolta made Denzel confess to his crime, other than that a pretty boring movie.

Now that I look back 5 months later after seeing this in the theatre, I do think this was Tony Scott/Denzel's weakest collaboration. Deja Vu, which was their previous collaboration, was much more compelling even though it was more science fiction.
The only thing that was interesting was Denzel playing a "normal" guy and not a badass cop or FBI agent.
I did notice something funny on Netflix. They screwed up the synopsis on their site. They called Denzel's character "Police Lt. Zachary Garber."

Saw this finally on Blu-ray. I was enjoying it for what it was until the third act. I actually enjoyed Travolta's manic energy and liked Washington's everyman character. At the end when Garber jumps into action the movie lost me. I especially hated the unbelievable end when he ignores the police orders and they basically watch him and do nothing. I give it a C+

I'm glad that the new version, if nothing else, brought the original to someone's attention.
