Short Circuit Remake
Taken from here
Can't wait til people complain about this one saying that they are ripping off Wall-E
Dimension Films has hired Dan Milano to write the script for the Short Circuit remake.
The 1986 original was about an armed robot that acquired a personality after a lightning strike, and sought the help of humans to prevent its destruction by its makers in the military.
Milano, who aside from writing and providing voices for the Adult Swim cartoon "Robot Chicken" and co-creating and playing the title character in "Greg the Bunny," figures to bring a subversive edge to the original film scripted by S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock.
"We're bringing Number 5 into the 21st Century and taking advantage of the improvements in robotics that are so massive that robots are now performing heart surgeries in hospitals," producer David Foster said and added that the robot's visual look won't change.

Re: Short Circuit Remake
There's one thing that could make this awesome -- they have to make it explicit that Johnny 5 is a forerunner of the HK tanks in Terminator:

Come on, ugh.
First I hear about a Predator (alright, so this one may be good because of the director) and Scream reboot and now this?
They should get an Indian guy to play a white guy in the remake.

Much like Predator, I'd rather see a sequel than a remake. Still, I'm curious to see what the updated Johnny 5 will look like.

Yeah, that's the only thing I'm interested in here.
Watch it be 100% CGI or something horrible like that.
Maybe Jonah Hill will voice it too.

Considering how well the last remake, Wall-E, did, I'm not that surprised.

I know Dan (the screenwriter hired for this) and you don't need to worry about anything. The dude is a hardcore movie nerd (and nerd in general, he hosts D&D parties). He's the creator of Greg the Bunny and voices/writes a lot of the Robot Chicken sketches, and is one of the funniest guys in Hollywood.
If there's anyone I trust to do right by Johnny 5, it's Dan.

Hollywood has always had some strange ideas but lately between movies about board games, Where's Waldo, Full House reunion, remake of everything.
I don't see how improved robotics would help this movie. I thought Johnny 5 was quite expressive/impressive already. The effects still hold up decently. They didn't really do any stop motion which really dates a movie.
If anything advancements in technology probably just means they'll screw it up and go CGI with just about everything.

I just hope this leads them to start selling those cool Johnny 5 toys from Short Circuit 2. I always wanted one of those.
