N/A
Office Space
Holy Grail
I have to make a choice here? Fuck. I think Groundhog is the better film (it's a 10 out of 10 film, IMO), but I think I have to go with Ghostbusters. I wouldn't be surprised if 10 years from now--and after several more repeat viewings for each-- I call Groundhog a bigger fave.

Re: Comedy Tournament Round #5/Final 8

Damn now it's getting really tough.
Caddyshack - If you ask me tomorrow I might say Vacation, the next day Caddyshack. Really hard to pick one.
Office Space - Easily.
Python - Damn, I hate voting against Airplane too.
Ghostbusters - Somewhat easier.

Exactly the same here. I can't remember anything about Airplane, so I didn't vote for the third matchup.

Yep, maybe Caddyshack too. It figures that my two favorites are facing each other.

Caddyshack

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - I still don't get the love for OS.

Airplane - Tough, I don't really care for spoofs or Python.

Groundhog Day - AGH, I love both!

Things I like about Office Space, in no particular order:
  • The characters' plot is taken from Superman III
  • Jennifer Aniston is entirely likable in a girl-next-door role...before that's what she became known for doing.
  • I love Herman Melville's short story, "Bartleby, the Scrivener" and Ron Livingston's character is clearly a descendant of that guy.
  • It's an amusing reflection on workplace politics. The guys who work the hardest are overlooked; the guys who care the least are rewarded.
  • At its heart, the movie is very grounded in the rut of reality, but what makes it fun is the heightened absurdity of the characters' behavior and actions.

Airplane! vs. Holy Grail was probably the toughest match.

It looks like Ferris Bueller's Day Off is determined to be the Cinderella in this tournament.

It's a pity Groundhog Day is getting destroyed - it's probably one of the greatest comedies of the modern era.

Agreed. Groundhog Day is really kind of a perfect film.

Re: Comedy Tournament Round #5/Final 8

#1 - Never got the love for Caddyshack, Vacation all the way.
#2 - Slightly tough choice, but I'll go Ferris Bueller's Day Off over Office Space.
#3 - Love Airplane, but all of these lose to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
#4 - Groundhog Day is nearly perfect, but I knew it would lose in most of these possible match-ups. Ghostbusters would be 4th of this list for me.

Is ghostbusters really that funny? It is a cool flick, I could watch it over and over, but I laugh at Groundhog day much more...
