Well, she actually headlined the massive franchise first ("Twilight") and became a star as a result and now does all the interesting indie roles most stars would avoid. She's on quite a roll.

She made millions of dollars with Twilight so its possible she doesn't need to get stuck in a meaningless but well payed role playing a superhero's girlfriend or female scientist in disaster flick and instead can concentrate on roles that interest her. Just last year she became the first American actress to win a Cesar award for Clouds of Sils Maria and probably would have easily been nommed(and a win contender) for an Oscar if you replaced her co-star Binoche with a vet male actor. #OscarSoPencentric

^ Her and Robert Pattison made so much money that that's all they do now. Independent to low scale projects based on merit. Pattison always seemed like a likable guy. Even he said that he was only doing Twilight to make as much money as possible to do work that was actually good. He knew Twilight was garbage but it paid extremely well.

He was great in Cosmopolis and The Rover. He seemed to have been rejuvenated by working with David Cronenberg - if you watch the 2 hour documentary on the making of Cosmopolis he's like a kid at a candy store.

Stewart has worked on all kinds of interesting stuff: Still Alice, One the Road, Clouds of Sils Marie, Speak, Cafe Society, Camp X-Ray,. Obviously individual opinion of her is going to vary in each role, but From the Beate generation to Woody Allen to Oliver Assayas, she's made a strong effort to be more than "the girl from Twilight.

Skeet Ulrich was supposed to be the second coming of Johnny Depp after he did Scream, but then fizzled out. I remember that film he did called "Touch" that was written/directed (based on an Elmore Leonard novel) by Paul Schrader - being really good, and that was released in 1997. He did a couple of more higher profile gigs and that was it. He's been busy doing television work for like 15 years now.

You're only going to go so far with a first name like Skeet.

What's interesting is her first big role was Freaks and Geeks and she was the lead character. Everything else she has done after that has been as a supporting role. She's had a nice career, but never made that leading lady status after F&G.

It's hard to go from female lead in a teen show to feature film lead, I think, partly because there are fewer lead roles for women and partly because a lot of it has to do with how you look and indirectly your age. You could also argue that while she was a focal point of that show it was truly an ensemble cast.

I'm surprised Matthew Lawrence wasn't as big as Macaulay Culkin.

Watching High Fidelity this morning, and Natasha Gregson Wagner popped up near the end.

Her IMDB shows that she kept working but never made it big. Given her pedigree, it seems like she should have done more, but she was not as beautiful as her mother.

Patrick Fugit was so great as the lead in Almost Famous. It had to burn him up to see Kate Hudson rocket to superstardom after that movie while his career never took off. He continues to work to this day. Mostly in tiny indie projects but also occasionally in major stuff. He was a cop in Gone Girl and more recently had a fairly big part in First Man. But he never became the star I expected.

Well, every time he called his agent's office and the receptionist asked who was calling he'd say "Fug it," and she would hang up on him. With that attitude, no wonder he's not a star.
