What, in your opinion, is the best ending to a film?
Didn't see a thread on this, though I expect someone to correct me with a link. In any case...
What's your favorite ending to a film? Whether it makes you think, has a powerful impact or just resonated so perfectly in your mind.
I've always been partial to the endings of John Carpenter's film, but my personal fav is a toss-up between The Thing and Prince of Darkness.
The Thing's ending is so pitch-perfect for the film. It's ambiguous without being cliched.
Prince of Darkness, aside from being a criminally underrated film, has such an awesome ending. The music, the dream (?) and the extension of Jameson Parker's fingers then... cut to black. It's fantastic.

I thought There Will Be Blood had a great ending. It had a great everything, really.
Not the best, but I liked the ending of Casino Royale more than any other Bond movie.

Something about the ending to There Will Be Blood gives me the warm and fuzzies.
I enjoyed the ending to Memento as well, not necessarily the ending shot as just the collage of events revealing

Obligatory references to The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects aside, I also like ambiguous endings like the ones in Syriana, Ballast, Y Tu Mamá También, Children of Men...

I was just reading a old review of mine that I did for United 93.
That movie's ending I still have in my head bouncing around...

it may be a flawed movie overall, but I loved the ending of Dune.
and The Elephant Man - as a kid the movie freaked me out, but seeing again as an adult, it was so painfully sad.
Fame the abrupt end after the song "I Sing the Body Electric'
Shoeshine - I had seen a documentary on Italian Cinema that ruined the ending for me, but seeing the whole movie for the first time yesterday, the ending was still powerful
Japon
3 Monkeys (Üç maymun)
Andrey Rublyov

And I agree with you. Those are two of my favorite endings and whenever it doesn't go the cliche "good guy" wins route I tend to like it more.
I'm sure a lot of good movies will be mentioned in this thread but I'll put my vote out for Rocky. A great ending, IMO.
And on the lighter side of things, I just rewatched Role Models and I couldn't help but cheer at the final "battle" sequence.
The ending to The Wrestler was perfect, yet heartbreaking.

I really like the non-happy ending to Blade Runner.
I like it when the ending of a movie lets you know that the story isnt over.
There's some feeling that I get when I see certain endings that I can't describe well enough so I will just list a few that I like. These don't necessarily elicit the same feeling but they get me going in some way.
American Psycho
Blood Simple
McCabe & Mrs. Miller
No Country for Old Men
Reservoir Dogs
Robocop
Straw Dogs
Taxi Driver
There will be Blood
The Vanishing ('88)

Oh and how could I forget, Mulholland Drive. Not only did you get some awesome girl on girl, but you got to see all the influences on what lead up to the erm, sequence.
I also agree with Fight Club, one of my favorite "happy" endings.
Also, A Clockwork Orange had a pitch perfect ending.

Dogs of War - Walken was great in this
The Wrestler - Rourke " " " "
Journey to the Beginning of Time - Big impact when I was a kid
The Blue Max - Saw this in the movies when I was a kid and couldn't blieve they would do such a thing
Enemy Below - Great WWII Movie, based on an actual event and the basis for ST:TOS Balance of Terror
