well, Taken was leaked on the net too (and dvd quality too) granted it was released on dvd in france since it was a french production) and even the uncut version, and look at how much bank that movie made.

I'd say the range in quality in comic books is about the same as all other forms of media entertainment.

But that Hollywood's adaptations of comic books haven't quite hit the possible highs. We have lots of complete dreck (The Spirit) up to above average films (The Dark Knight).

i know someone who gets dvd quality copies sometimes within days of a movie hitting the theater. there is no way the studios can't put a stop to this by watermarking the screener/VIP DVD's.

it's like with the $1000 purses. they let the pirates sell the stuff as part of their branding to get people to buy the brand who can't afford the real thing. and a lot of them will buy the real thing when they can afford it later in life.

Again...Wolverine did well at the box office. I would have seen it myself it my schedule had permitted.

No one outside of a very small group on the internet knows or cares about the workprint.

It actually was. The only difference was that some of the effects were unfinished, which ended up looking like shit anyways.

If anything hurt this movie, I think it was word of mouth, much more than the leak. Though that may have facilitated the bad word of mouth.

My point exactly.

I would say The Dark Knight hit the heights of all but my favorite comic series (Sandman), but I feel like that's a series that really works best as a comic.

On the flipside, you could say that comics haven't hit the heights of something like 2001, but that wouldn't be fair, because 2001 takes full advantage of the film medium.

No, they didn't. They have no reason too.

Re: Did Fox Leak the Wolverine Workprint on Purpose?

I liked Wolverine personally, not anything great, but a fun popcorn movie. I had the notion that Fox leaked it since it was better than X3, in some feeble attempt to drum up word of mouth, but I'm sure I'm wrong.

Re: Did Fox Leak the Wolverine Workprint on Purpose?

If a sequel to Wolverine is made and it's as bad as the first one and yet we still see $87 million opening weekend, then shame on all of us. How many times are we going to be fooled by FOX and/or any other studio that keeps putting out crap. I'd blame the actors for even taking the role after reading the horrible script, but hey I can't fault them for getting a fat paycheck.
