Yes.
Although I wouldn't mind something more entertaining then Peter Jackson's. |
Re: is it too soon for another KING KONG remake?
NO
Peter Jackson's version is a terrific action/adventure fantasy. Excellent performance by Watts, amazing Kong effects, thrilling action sequences. Extremely entertaining epic. |
Re: is it too soon for another KING KONG remake?
Never needed remaking in the first place - the original is perfect. :)

"I'm gonna say maybe". (Tommy boy reference )

Can't say I disagree with you there. I've been a fan of that film since I was still rockin' training wheels on my bike. I wonder how a new version would have turned out if Universal had gotten their proposed remake off the ground in the late 80's/early 90's. I doubt we'll see it at this point, but with technology doing what it can today I think the results could be epic if they got the right script and director.

Aside from the 1933 original, I think the remakes are lacking in "movie" realism. Like someone said, a dark version of the Kong story is definitely something that would be "new." For all of Peter Jackson's amazing special effects, that film was way too campy for me. I bought the DVD because I did enjoy Kong himself, but the rest of it can really burn. |

I don't get you people who trash fantasy films. Of course certain things (actually MOST things) in movies are bogus, but for the time you're invested in the film, you are supposed to suspend disbelief. Like when you were a kid - you watched a monster movie, and there was not one shred of doubt that this could be reality.

For "Shawshank," get Tom Hanks as "Andy," as it was originally going to be (Hanks couldn't commit due to "Forrest Gump"). But I digress........ We need a real KING KONG!! And actors that are terrified, as opposed to going through the motions as if they were, well.....acting. |

Oh, so when you said "realism" you meant "movie realism", which by realism, you meant fantasy, which you then compare to reality.

I love movies. All kinds. But you see the point of my points...you aren't making alot of sense my friend.
As far as 2005's King Kong is concerned, I expected certain things that weren't present in the film. Ann Darrow didn't have a scratch on her. And between the dinosaur stampede scene and the kid shooting bugs off of Driscoll without shooting Driscoll.......those things defy disbelief. It becomes a farce. When Kong is in Manhattan, the military is just shooting up the city, without giving a shit about the fact they're shooting up buildings with people in them. C'mon! You're telling me I should just accept this?! This is a monster movie. We, going into the theater, accept the fact that monsters exist in this film. But humans have to behave accordingly! It is called A MOVIE. I don't want my King Kong movie to be a farce. I want something better. Something realistic to the story, however unrealistic the story may be. |

You enter that little world where reality gets skewed and you enjoy what's there (or you don't). I never worry about things like reality in movies, it's just not part of the world I'm in for 2 hours or so. |
Re: is it too soon for another KING KONG remake?
I think we need someone to do GODZILLA justice before we tackle KING KONG again.

The Japanese have done Godzilla justice numerous times. You might even say that Abrams did Godzilla a semblance of justice.

Adolf Hitler would be proud.
King Kong was his favorite movie (per Trivial Pursuit). |
