Butch Cassidy Remake - With Cruise and Travolta!

http://www.popcrunch.com/john-travol...ce-kid-remake/

Tom Cruise will reportedly team up with pal John Travolta in a remake of the 1960s western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The surrogate father of Scientology plans to produce the remake through his United Artists Studio and is currently in talks with scriptwriters, a new report claims.

A source tells The Daily Mirror: “Butch and Sundance is a labor of love for Tom. He was eight years old when he saw the original and it made an impression that has stayed with him all his life. He can’t wait to get to work.”

Tom hopes to revive the role of Sundance–played by Robert Redford in the original film–while 55-year-old John is expected to play Cassidy.

The 46-year-old star even got the blessing of Paul Newman - who originally played the role of Cassidy in the film about a pair of lovable bank robbers–before he died of lung cancer last September, tattles tell the tab.

“It has been a pet project of his that has been on the back-burner for years. But now he’s ready to go, and will most likely happily eschew the enormous salary that he normally commands.”

I don't think I will see this.

Don't start there. First on the agenda, burn down any theater playing it. With the people inside dumb enough to pay to see this shit.

Once again if you under 30's would watch or buy these great films Hollywood won't remake them. They know you haven't seen the story so when you do you'll love it. Movies are now like music was in the late 80's. That you have a young generation being sold with old goods. In the case of music I mean the background music rap used was all old 70's music.

In this version, instead of Mr. E.H. Harriman of the Union Pacific Railroad, our plucky duo engages in mortal combat with the evil Sigmund Freud.

Re: Butch Cassidy Remake - With Cruise and Travolta!

While I understand the opposition to the idea of remaking [i]Butch Cassidy[i], would it be entirely possible to seperate the movie (and, subsequently, the actors) from the religion of Scientology?

They are Scientologists. Deal with it. From a religious standpoint, Scientology is as valid an ecumenical philosophy as Christianity or Judaism.

Not when both actors are not only positioned themselves as high-profile representatives of that point of view and have both made public fools of themselves on its behalf (Battlefield Earth and Matt Lauer interview).

Exactly my thoughts.

This will probably never happen. Ever. At least I hope not.

Then I can safely make the assumption that you are an atheist. Otherwise, whatever religion you believe in would only be validated by the physical appearance of whatever god you happened to believe in.

Or you're merely an idiot. That is the most likely explanation.

I think you misread his statement. He didn't claim it to be valid, but "as valid as". So maybe when Hubbard beams down, Jesus can walk across the Atlantic to come and welcome him.

Ick. What a terrible idea. Too bad Heath Ledger weren't still alive, he'd make a good Sundance.

Yeah hmm I call bullshit. They report these facacta stories to whip up interest in their paper. Remember that "planned remake of Casablanca with J.Lo and Ben Affleck"? Same stupid foolish garbage that people seem to get whipped into a frenzy over.

The difference being that these two Scientologists have decided to beat their religion into anyone that is willing to listen... and since they are famous they'll spout it out in interviews and movies. This is why we make Scientology jokes when they're in talks of doing a movie together (which I don't think will happen anyway).

So yes I agree that Scientology is just as viable as any other relgion. In fact I think it's hilarious when a devout Christian/Jew/Muslim makes fun of Scientology. However, most celebrities don't talk about/"recruit" for their own religion every opporitunity they get so they aren't ridiculed for it. We'd make jokes if Mel Gibson did a movie with someone very Jewish too.

I figure if you're "willing to listen", then you got nothing to complain about.

I have no problem with Scientologists; their religion is just as wacky and retarded as any other one.

Both of these crazies in one movie!? The remake better have Cruise in a bald-guy fat suit and Travolta in a creepy lady fat suit.

For the life of me, I cannot picture these two as Butch and Sundance. Sorry to see another classic being remade.

Well, as others have pointed out, the rumor comes from a less-than-reliable source. It's just a chance to make fun of the actors now.
