I think he will. He seems to like putting his final stamp on a story. Take a look at The Departed for the most recent example.

Scorsese hasn't made a good movie since Goodfellas, so I won't be getting my hopes up.

ughhh...

The Departed
Bob Dylan: No Direction Home
Casino
Gangs of New York
Aviator
etc

I'm pretty sure these all qualify as "good movies". They are no Goodfellas, but that's also a top ten-ish movie all time, and my personal favorite. It's hard to top.

For some reason...I like Casino more than Goodfellas..I may think it's better. They are similar...maybe it's Liotta's fucking weird ass smile that bothers me. Look like jmu878, it's hard as fuck to get another movie as good as film as Goodfellas is known for.

All crap, except for Bob Dylan, which I've never seen, nor ever want to see.

This is coming from someone who called Pulp Fiction and The Usual Suspects "pieces of shit", hates The Godfather trilogy and The Deer Hunter...so pay no mind.

I never said I hated The Godfather films. I'm just not a fan of them, but they are extremely well made. You are right about the other three though, I hate them all with a passion. Especially The Usual Suspects & Pulp Fiction.

He can't change the climax very much without altering the story drastically. The story itself hinges upon the ending.

And while I liked The Departed for what it was, he should have removed that very final stamp. The shot of the rat scurrying across the view of the State House was downright embarrassing. Way to end your movie with such a hamfisted final shot, Marty.

Am I really the only person who views the final shot as just an amusing visual joke Scorsese threw in at the last minute, and nothing more? Unless someone can point out something Scorsese said about it, there's nothing "hamfisted" or symbolic about that shot.

Actually I wasn't referring to that shot. I was talking about the entire scene with Mark Wahlberg's character.

The placement of Scorsese's name is kind of awkward, but it's certainly an improvement on the previous poster.

Looks entertaining. A movie like this needs a decent plot and quality atmosphere, looks to have both. Though I don't expect A-level Scorscese out of it.

Any time Scorsese makes a new one, it's my most anticipated film of the year.

Trailer looks terrific, that's the most psyched I've been in years by a Scorcese trailer. I just really, really hope they don't change the ending to the book.

One the one hand, that trailer creeped me the fuck out, and the inside of the institution was terrific. On the other, the Boston accents, the CG, and the insultingly over-expositional dialogue made me wince. I mean, I've never seen a Scorsese film I regretted watching (and only didn't like Boxcar Bertha and The Color of Money), so I'll be there opening day for sure. But this makes me a mite uneasy.

golden_rod 06-12-09 12:49 AM

re: Shutter Island (Scorsese, 2010): DiCaprio, Ruffalo, Kingsley, Von Sydow

Are they serious with those accents? Christ.

Visually, it looks pretty fucking rad. I really like the look of it. Still hopeful that they changed the ending somewhat, but I know that it isn't in the cards.

Very excited for this one - Scorsese gave us a taste of what he can do with the horror\thriller genre when he did Cape Fear - this one looks nice and creepy and I'm a sucker for the "haunted house", "haunted island", "haunted this or that or whatever" type films.

The trailer feels like another generic "ghost" story to me. It looks merely ok to me. That said, I will be seeing it in theatres.

Yes, but a great director can do a lot with a generic story. For example,Drag Me to Hell looks rather bland in the trailers. I wasn't interested at all until I found out Sam Raimi was involved.

Really? I can't think many films that can compare in some fashion to the talent of Scorsese.

This is his first feature film with a 'story' since The Departed. Will be interested to see how/if the Oscar has affected his style and what the results are.

I have a really bad feeling the critics might not really dig this, but we'll see. The Departed looked pretty throwaway from initial trailers.

I thought Scorsese should have toned down De Niro's histrionics in that one, he was way over the top, to the point where he just became a cartoon. I much prefer the nonchalant, coiled-snake evil of Mitchum in the original.
