Re: Land of the Lost Thread
In the original, they fell into a pocket dimension built by the ancient ancestors of the Sleestak (who had since devolved into primitives). Different pylons across the land controlled different aspects of the dimension, like time or the progression of the celestial bodies in the sky. The dimension was such that in one episode they climbed one of the mountains that surrounded the valley and looked out with binocculars and saw themselves from behind.
There were a lot of cool ideas in the show that could be perfect for a primetime TV remake...

The original show wasn't cheesy at all. The FX just look cheesy NOW by comparison to CGI. When it was first on it was pretty much the best thing going on Saturday morning TV.
The movie looks mildly amusing, but they really missed an opportunity to start a new franchise. Just imagine Clancy Brown as Rick Marshall...

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought that someone had managed to tap into an archive of lost threads. In fact, I was eager to find some of mine. So you can imagine my disappointment...

Kinda surprisingly they are going the PG-13 rating for this one. I say well done Universal:
PG-13 for crude and sexual content, language including drug refrences

I think these are the BEST looking dinosaurs from any movie, including Jurrassic Park. They're less........plastic-like. More "fleshed."

I won't be seeing this. Not because of how it relates to the original show, or the effects, but mostly because in no way does it seem funny.
And it is correct that Ferrell and McBride haven't been in a movie together, but Ferrell did have a guest spot on Eastbound and Down.

Reviews so far are pretty harsh. I think this looks like it could be fun, but I wasn't intending to see it in theaters (will be seeing Drag Me To Hell and The Hangover this weekend.)

Only 4 reviews at RT so far but all are negative and a couple are downright brutal. Guess I'll be seeing The Hangover this weekend which looks to be great.

Re: Land of the Lost Thread
I just got back from seeing it tonight in Austin, the Texas premiere of the film, with Marty Krofft, director Brad Silberling, and composer Michael Giacchino in attendance. I'm a big fan so it was quite the amazing event. Most people that know me are especially aware of my love for Michael Giacchino's music. I got to hear them talk about the film and what it was like making it and I was also able to ask Michael Giacchino a question! I really did have a blast at this event.
As for the movie itself, they said they did more work on it and just finished editing it and composing music for it just two hours before they had to get to Austin for the event with the movie with them. Anyway, the movie was definitely not perfect by any means but I still quite enjoyed it. It was a lot better than I expected it to be, even if ultimately it is a rather silly comedy I still had good fun with it. It was a lot of fun and if that's what you want going into this I doubt you will regret seeing it. Anna Friel was also great in it - I really liked her performance and she was SMOKIN' HOT in this film, or if you prefer I will also comment on just how GORGEOUS she was (as per usual). Personally, for me, she ranks with Evangeline Lilly in terms of who I have the biggest mad crushes on.

I think parents taking kids are going to be a little embarrassed. It sounds like, except for including some elements from the show, it is NOT intended for a family audience.

So, it finally got a good review, and that review was from Armond White.
This movie is doomed.

I didn't realize prints were already at theaters, so I guess your probably right. But that's what they said... I guess it would be a joke then. My mistake!

Re: Land of the Lost Thread
Owen Gliberman's EW.com C Grade review sounds about right, really... but that's still a lot better than what I had imagined it might be. It's definitely a dumb comedy and very much "weird" but I still thought it was a lot of fun to watch. I guess I'll see it again this weekend just to see if it plays well the second time or if my memories of it are a bit "off" because of how stunned I was to be there.

I'm rather miffed that they made this show, a childhood favorite, into a spoof/wacky comedy. The Sleestaks were always a favorite, and it's nice to see them in the public eye once again. But now they will be associated with this movie and I'll have to explain that they were once cool and terrifying.

If anything, they should have gone in the direction of the new Star Trek movie and done a hard hitting serious sci-fi movie.

However, just hours before they showed it on the week of its release, yeah, that sounds highly doubtful.

Re: Land of the Lost Thread
I saw a press screening of "The Italian Job" about 2 weeks before it came out, and it was an incomplete version (but mostly done) and they told us it was still a workprint, so I could see them showing the press a not quite final version.
However, just hours before they showed it on the week of its release, yeah, that sounds highly doubtful.

And speaking of the score - it was quite good. Expect a lot of banjo-playing. I was surprised to find that in a Giacchino score but it worked well. The majority of the score though is rather serious, and appropriate adventure music. They talked (Silberling and Giacchino) about how they wanted the music to be more serious in nature so that the humor in the film would come more from the characters and the situations themselves, but that it would be grounded in something more serious so that the world they were thrown into would seem more... well, I believe they were implying fantastical. I think you get the general idea.

I guess you have to be in the mood for a goofball picture like this. I guess I was. Marshall Fine says it's worse than "Night at the Museum," but I've seen "Night at the Museum," and Marshall, this is no "Night at the Museum."

I can't believe some of you still defend Ebert, HE SUCKS, he likes terrible movies like this, mummy 3, and the happening. How can you still give this guy any credibility?

Director Silberling has stated that there are over 30 minutes of deleted scenes that were cut for whatever reason. They should appear on the dvd.
So I will indeed be waiting for the dvd.

He's alright in my book. That and his reviews usually detail why he likes or hates something, and does so properly, unlike a lot of critics.
