Actually, looking at his posting history, I think he means the Movie Talk forum. So for him to even bother coming in here to post that must mean the film really sucks, which jives with the general consensus.

That's why I posted it. It's a 'thing' in this forum.

Here's a chart from RT showing his average critical score for each film.
So his next film has nowhere to go but up!

If this flick loses a decent amount of money, I really don't see how he'll still be able to get A-list funding for his future projects. He really should be directing low budget movies with once-was actors. If he gets another chance to make a bigger production film, they should probably stop pushing his name in the advertising - it has more negative assocations than positive ones.

0% would be amazing, he should aim for it. Actually Armond White will give him a positive review so he may end up at 1%.

Disney has to be sitting back and laughing at the disasterous turn career took.

I still want to believe in M. Night...but fuck...WTF is up w/ him?

also...I'm getting annoyed w/ M. Night by the 3rd act of that interview...

Re: The Last Airbender (Shyamalan, 2010) — The other Avatar movie

Wow. He seems like a really interesting guy and he does sound like he knew what he was doing. I'm so shocked this reportedly fell appart.

I'm still gonna go see it. Everybody apparently hated Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief whereas I thought it was very entertaining (albeit deeply flawed). I'm hoping for the same with The Last Airbender.

That interview that gryffinmaster posted makes me wish there'd be an extended cut included on the BD. Because I doubt there'll be a part two, given the horrible reviews.

Well, critics (rightfully) shat all over Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and that didn't stop it from making a shit-ton of money. So it's definitely possible.

I'm predicting it'll flop - even if the reviews were decent.

the one advantage this has is that its in 3D (extra profit) and that this is the alternative to Eclipse

I think the opposite. Despite awful reviews, I think this is going to open huge, better than people expect, most are underestimating just how popular the cartoon is. Will remain to see if it does more than that, but I certainly don't think as dreadful as the early word is, that this movie will loss money as several people here have said.

But the Avatar cartoon doesn't have nearly the name recognition and history of Transformers. A lot of people my age went to see Transformers just because they played with the toys back in the 80s.

Most people my age don't know anything about the Avatar cartoon, and don't care to know

Re: The Last Airbender (Shyamalan, 2010) — The other Avatar movie

Here's a review that mirrors most of my (positive) opinion: http://www.montrealfilmjournal.com/r...asp?R=R0001371

It wasn't one of my favorite Shyamalan films, but I still enjoyed it immensely. I also thought it was a good adaptation of the series. As long as you enter this with the understanding that certain things ARE changed and not everything you loved about the series can be encapsulated in a two hour film, then I think fans of the series may actually enjoy this... depending on how big a fan of the series you are, that is (YMMV).

I hope you don't mind if we take your opinion of the film with a grain of salt the size of Kentucky.

However.... maybe The Last Airbender is just more of his evil plan???

Thanks to all this talk about the Last Airbender, I am going to watch the TV show. After that I will cap it off by forgetting this movie or its writer/director ever existed, except for Unbreakable, which magically appeared out of nowhere.

Holy crap.

I've never seen The Happening, the first movie of his that I didn't bother seeing in the theater or even on DVD or anything.

I'm right there with you. I've always wanted to watch the series, but just never got around to it. This is as good a time as any.

I can't watch a movie now with Mark Wahlberg without picturing him uttering those lines.
